We have two book shops in Loughborough one is Waterstones the other is an independent which also does second hand & I have found this shop quite good.
We also have 12 charity shops who sell books.
But the best local one to me is in Nottingham.

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

I don't know of any second hand book shops in our local towns, although a few regular bookshops do have a tiny (and expensive) second hand corners. The local charity shops are your best bet, with my favourite being St. Vincent de Paul in Dundalk. Go through the main shop and discover a library of little gems.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.
