Absolutely Lozza, and we should all count our blessings if we're not grieving for loved ones tonight.

Been jolly windy here today too - yet again. Here is a slightly amusing story partly due to the weather.

OH was supposed to come home from Germany today for elder son's birthday. His train was delayed due to a tree on the line - then the plane was delayed due to the weather. He is currently stuck on a link bridge from the plane at Amsterdam airport. We should be on the way home from Cardiff airport now. Doesn't look like he will share the actual 16th birthday - just as well son and I decided to 'delay' the celebration until tomorrow!!

My thoughts are with those who have suffered loss and damage today - thankfully my OH is just temporarily misplaced!

Thanks Alice. Don't think I am going to see him until tomorrow. All flights from Amsterdam to Cardiff have been cancelled or are in the air. Not to worry - definately better late ....

Best wishes Shirl, and sympathy to everyone who has suffered, I have been very lucky and not had to go out today, so apart from our neighbours swing cover coming our way, no apparent trouble. I tried to get to the shop around the corner, and was blown sideways (and I'm not a slight figure!) but still saw a large high-sided lorry definitely swaying as it came towards the lights.

Go safe every and better luck tomorrow.

It's a new moon on saturday, so hopefully the weather will change then.

Good luck Shirl, hope your OH arrives safe and sound very soon and that you can have a lovely celebration then.
Agree with you Alice - that's why I was so cross with my boss - he acted as though he was the only person with damage caused by the wind. As you say buildings can be mended, people cant.

I watched News24 with the planes trying to land at Bristol there was a 737 and it looked like the wings were going to come off they flexed about 20% up then down....bet they needed to replace ALL the sickbags on that one.

Thanks everyone. OH says Amsterdam airport looks most strange with 'medivac' beds everywhere. He promised to take a photo so I will have to work out how to post one tomorrow for you to have a laugh. He said the most annoying part of the trip so far was spending an hour trying to get off the plane coz the door was stuck or something. Then when they got off the plane the door from the link bridge to the airport was shut!!! Not a good trip home. He is due to land at Cardiff tomorrow at 4pm!!! Then on Saturday we leave in his beloved car to drive back to Germany - just hope my flight back on Tuesday is more normal!

Hope everyone is now tucked up safe and sound

Same channel had what looked like London City Airport with a BAE146 taking off, it was at a slight angle to the direction of travel as it trundled down the runway.
Once the wheels left the groung it turned nearly thirty degrees left.

From my 4th floor office heard a bang and looked out.
The facia sign/frontage of a cafe over the road had come off its fixing shot over the pavement, breaking into big bits as it went and the largest bit whacked into a doubledecker bus.

Journey home, should be 1&1/2 hours, took 4, details in What I did today thread.
Had booked tomorrow off last week to allotment, looks as though that might be impractical, but less impractical than my commute would be .

We have lost some branches off our trees (nothing too bad) and out little dry-stone-wall has come down, and we're, of course, flooded again!

Guess Mr OWG will have to enrol on the DSW course at Myerscough College...

In Leyland, my sisters metal shed has blown over....

Just glad we've not had more damage etc...

We had a very close call with a very large tree which which fell in front of the car - about a car's length in front of the car! I had to break hard as it came crashing down. I had my three children in the car with me and we just sat there in silence, not being able to believe what had happened. So, I am feeling a very, very luck lady today.

So sorry for all of you who have suffered damage but, as has been said, we are all still here.

I work at London Bridge. The station had part of the roof collapse and some glass from the top of our building came off. Our building was cordoned off so I wasn't sure if I could even get out let alone home. Eventually did make it home by bus to find my garden in a state of tranquility, it was though it was staring at me wondering what I had been worried about. I hope everyone is okay and the fruits of our labour not too damaged

Glad I escaped the winds this time , really feel for all who have had damage but as long as we are all ok that's the main thing.

                                Take care everyone, Mandy
