Maybe I'm not as good as I think I am. I didn't get the job, but it was very close blah blah blah. The other person had more teaching experience blah blah blah.

He must be even crustier than me then, as I started teaching NVQ's in 1996 and then formal teaching in 2002.

Why can't they just say "It's a closed shop and our internal applicant got it"?

Don't take it personally; I've been turned down for lots recently; ones that I would have walked into a few years back. It's an employer's market these days.....

They have to advertise (even if they intend an internal applicant to get it!) - It's all this Political Correctness stuff. It's a huge waste of everyone's time, money and emotonal energy. Hope something else comes up for you.

Sorry to hear of your problem RGN. It strikes me as childish making you work two months, jobs are scarce, they should be able to fill any position easily, if only in the short term.

Good luck with the job hunting!

Sorry you didn't get the job Ringo. Have you considered supply teaching once you move, while you look for a permanent position?

This may or may not apply - but I used to work for a very well-known American Credit Card Comp in Brighton area - there aren't that many so I'll assume you'll guess which one!

When a rival CC company set up there was the obvious poaching as well as well-intended betterment applications to the new kid in town.

Those who made it known that their future employer was 'NNN' were invited to the door and shown the way out soonest. If your situation is one where the current employer may be 'afraid' of plans and business prowess (or lack of) being shared with the competition it could be an opportunity or a swifter exit nearer the time of your planned move. But this will not bode well if you are planning a transfer 'within' the same comp.

Having read more detail on your post this may not apply - but may give you food for thought?

From your profile it looks as if you are based in North Yorks at the moment, and hope to move to Durham. If you mean north NYorks and south Durham, daily travelling would be feasible in the short term - could this be an option for you? So go ahead with the move, but keep the job until you get something else nearer your new home?

The time to resign is the day contracts are exchanged on house sale (after hearing from solicitor that this has happened). It is unusual for completion to be closer than 4 weeks from this (although it CAN be done in a few hours, 10 days is the shortest 'not exceptional' time I have ever heard of).
If all else fails, hand in notice as demanded, and develop a sudden inexplicable back ache!

Yeah, I was thinking about home tutoring too, especially with GCSE revision time coming up.

It is actually untenable for me to return to work now. Doctors appointment tomorrow.

the big blue building? It got me safely home once, after a drunken party on the beach (I was a student). I'd got completely disorientated, but as soon as I saw the big glass wedding cake I knew where I was

I have lit the blue touch paper by handing in my formal resignation. Let's see what happens.
