Having cycled up Alpe d'Huez in the Alps (21 hairpin bends), we were on the descent (fast), when a motor cyclist mishandled a bend, came straight at me, passed in front of me and turned between me and the inside of the road. It was a VERY close shave and I must have been saved by a split second. OH was more shocked as he saw it all. Thought I was a gonner.
I was still puffed from getting to the top!

Benacre - that is some story!

Hi BB, Well done. I think when you understand that you've probably got the hang of it! Also wanting what you've got helps as well. Keep smiling

Wow Jennie, cycling up Alp d'Huez!! I am mightily impressed and a tad jealous! Thats something I definitely want to do before I die, only problem is I'm no where near fit enough to do it nowadays! Now, if it'd been 10 years ago............

Good on you Benacre and Nog - two real heros.

I think most people behave like sheep in an emergency - that's why so many die unnecessarily. I watched a programme on survivors once. It mentioned a massive fire in a store in London several years ago. Many bodies were in the cafe and they couldn't understand why, as the alarm had gone off and there had been plenty of time to evacuate the building. They found out that people had queued up to pay their bill, being to embarrassed to leave without
                          paying!

I was talking to someone one yesterday who was traveling from Warrington to Partington (via the 12p toll bridge)last week and he had a great lump of tree hit his car and put a damn great dent in the bonnet - I guess thats a near miss

Obviously not a 'There but for...' moment, but more one of exquisite timing. Many years ago, came off my motor bike, colliding with two garden walls. One was the local police house, the other was the local doctor! Both gentleman happened to be off duty, and were gardening. First on the scene was the cop, followed about 3 seconds later by the Doc! How about that?
