Following on from the "Potato Days 2010" 'sticky' on Vegging Out: a note on "Transition Networks".
Way back in Jan 2008 'Tracey' started a thread on "Transition Towns" though at that stage not many had heard of the idea, see
http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ion-towns.html
Two years on it's a much more established organisation though perhaps still not widely known... Our local Potato Day is organised each year by “Transition Chesterfield” which is actually part of the national/international initiative which began in Totnes Devon in 2007 but is now seeking (quite successfully!) something approaching world domination and cooperation…. (there’s now about 160 Transition Towns around the UK and over 270 around the world). See:
Transition Towns WIKI :: TransitionNetwork / TransitionNetwork
Transition Network sees Grow Your Own, allotments etc as part of a larger community movement developing solutions to issues surrounding carbon fuels, climate, food supply, skill and craft exchange etc…. so today it was Seed Potatoes PLUS!
If you live in or near Chesterfield the local details and events are at:
Transition Chesterfield
If you want to locate your nearest Transition organisation there’s a full list at
Transition Towns WIKI :: TransitionNetwork / TransitionCommunities
Interesting….! bb.
