ARRRRGGGHH! I'm Going to KILL IT!!!!!!!

Yes I am, I REALLY am going to KILL both my desktop and my new Wireless printer.

Right let me explain [deep breath] I bought a new lap top which is great [although I've not 'bonded' with Windows 7 yet] and thought I'd treat us to a wireless printer. Well I just cannot get it to work, whatever I do it will not connect wirelessley [is that a word?] The lap top cannot find it, the printer will not find the lap top, they are both discoverable. All the set up soft ware for the printed will find is our orange wireless broadband box thingy. Two days and I've been trying.

To top that I use outlook express on my old desktop. It has Outlook installed so I'm attempting to transfer all my info from Express to Outlook with the 'wizard' this doesn't want to work either I have to put the info into Outlook as the new laptop has outlook don't I?

All help gratefully recived received from you wise and wonderful peeps. I'm now going to sit in a nice dark and quiet room.......................

Same problem here (and we can get most things to work, eventually). We gave up - the wireless box is gathering dust in a cupboard.

Did you ever see the Eddie Izzard sketch when his pooter can't find his printer? Pooter says "cannot find printer". After much shouting, he picks up the printer, shoves it next to the pooter and shouts "how can you not find it, it's right in front of you!" Or something like that.

Used wireless with laptop" for 5 years now, the "wireless gubbins is in No1 sons bedroom we have had no problems...................................so far.

We (No1 son/Madderbat &myself) are getting a wireless printer so I will keep you all posted.

PS We run 2 lap tops and a PC (+ next doors sons PC) off our "wireless" router.

Whats the make and model no of the printer!
Why dont you import your Outlook Express data into Windows Mail instead as Windows Mail is the successor to Outlook Express, it used to be that you couldn't directly import Outlook Express data i.e. dbx files into Outlook (from the Microsoft Office suite) anyway, this information just wasn't documented properly and despite similarity of name, Outlook and Outlook Express were two different beasts that didn't even share the same programming teams or Programming managers.

There are two different kinds of wireless network. One uses an Access Point (in your case the Orange wireless broadband box thingy), the other is Ad-hoc.

With Ad-hoc the devices connect directly to each other. With an Access Point all the devices connect to it, like the spokes on a wheel, and all the devices on the network talk to each other thru the Access Point.

So, if your shiny new printer can see the Orange box, your PCs should be able to access it as a network printer.

Have you tried installing the drivers for the printer on your desktop? Assuming your desktop is connected to the Orange box (either wired or wirelessly) you should then be able to access the printer over the network.

It could also be the settings on your Orange wireless box. Most sensible wireless networks these days use some form of encryption, such as WEP or WPA. These require a string of characters to be entered into each device on the wireless part of the network, have you done that?

Forgive me if you've already tried this ...

Make sure the printer is switched on then on the Windows 7 lappy go to ControlPanel/Hardware and Sound/Devices and Printers, click on Add a printer, then select "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer".

That was so me with my printer on Friday and this morning and it isn't even wireless!. I got a new laptop from work on Thursday so it was the first time using it with the new machine. Eventually got it to work by plugging it into the docking station instead of the machine

minskey, I know our IT guy at work had an inordinate amount of trouble getting my new Windies7 laptop to connect to the network and printers here at work. I'm afraid i don't know how he fixed it, but he did say 7 works on a completely back-to-front way compared to XP (which I had before).

My OH then set up a connection to the work VPN from home on it, and he said that instead of finding the network and adding your pc to it as you would normally, with 7 you have your pc and then you have to find the network to attach it too.
