            dear oh dear that's depressing, not only was there no UK record in place when I was born (and the US had some obscure Jimmy Dorsey track), but if you also work out what was probably top of the charts when you were conceived mine was, I kid you not, The Spinners with "Coming In on a Wing and Prayer"! bb
            .

                [QUOTE=quark1;604565]Doris Day - Secret Love.

                Same as you, quark - Doris Day - Secret Love.
                I remember the later version by Kathy Kirby, must have been mid 60's.

                  Don't know about the day, but these two songs were hits in the year I was born -

                  Begin the beguine - Artie Shaw

                  Thanks for the memory - Bob Hope and Shirley Ross

                        [QUOTE=kernowyon;604764]stop press... cancel my last

                        On 25th Feb 1968 ...

                        The Number 1 single was:
                        Manfred Mann - "Mighty Quinn"

                        We're twins!!! And it's definitely Manfred Mann, NOT Cinderella Rockafella (one of the worst songs of all time) - I looked it up years ago after hearing on the Annie Nightingale show that the No One on the day you were born worked as a sort of horoscope.

                        I'm sure the fact I married a Quinn had nothing to do with it. My 40th birthday present was a gold plated framed copy of the record.
