    Well it could be affecting everyone in the workplace if they're carrying someone who doesn't feel like doing that job, but is quite happy to do another less demanding one and still claim sick pay.

    I thought the 3 wise monkeys thingy was 'hear no evil, see no evil speak no evil'. That proverb that you quoted is an old yorkshire saying isn't it? And I'm sure you missed a bit off ...'if tha does owt for nowt always do it for thi'sen'

    But anyway, personally I don't see how someone should get payed for being too stressed to do one job if they're doing another. The pay is to cover them while they are too stressed to go to work - not becasue they can't cope with a particular job. If that's the case then the answer is simple - quit and get another job that you can cope with.

        Ah yes, I was thinking there was another bit in the middle - cheers for that Flum. I am also a yorkshire lass and refuse to believe this is in anyway appropriate to present day yorkshire folk.

          If you claim Sickness Benefit and at the same time draw wages, you are committing a fraud.
          If you can do one of the two jobs, don't claim Sickness Benefit but look into help with rent, council tax etc.

              Are you sure the person is drawing sick pay very rare in a part time job, or have they got a sick note which is a viable excuse for not being at work while they decide their future.

                Also depends if its Statutory sick pay..paid by the government..ie..us
                or Company sick pay..paid by the firm they work for
                If its company then surely they are entitled to claim it, as they are sicknoted from that specific job..
                If not..well...

                  That's not the full story, if you're signed off then work almost certainly don't have the insurance for you to be there and therefore don't want you on the premises. I've been in this situation and wasn't allowed to work even though I felt totally ready to do so.

                    There doesn't seem to be a hard and fast explanation of the sick pay rules from these postings, there seem to be many variants of what you can and can't do depending on your profession etc.. I have passed on your comments to my sister who doesn't know what to do re this person, she is going to see her line manager to talk about it as feels quite strongly against fraud of any kind and feels it would be against her principles not to talk to her about it.
                    Thank you for your comments on this subject obviously it has raised some moral and ethical questions and none of us i am sure would want to be in the position where we were unable to work due to stress at a particular job but still needed to bring in money to the home, must be awful situation to be in.
