  • Bo no more

I have just learned on BBC world news with some sadness that the last native speaker of the Bo language of the Indian Andarrum Islands has died, aged about 85.
I find that quite sad really, these islands survived for many a year without interference of the white man, but with his arrival came the start of the almost inevitable death of the language.
There are many other languages that are in danger, as the colonisation of the world increases.

Anyway, enough maudlin, Zeinab Bedawi would certainly have the pleasure of me for an evening if she asked nicely.

I just read a fairly lengthy article on this and recalled your thread. Thought-provoking stuff indeed. Would have probably passed me by, had you not posted.

Agree with you, Bob. It's horrific the way we shove our language, ethics and diseases at each unspoiled, pristine culture we find.

Has it been recorded and written up etc???
I recall a few years ago that someone was going round the Amazon and Pacific recording 'tribal' languages.

Very sad esp in this day and age too....when you can go to Uni and learn Klingon......
