The @ and " keys are also swithced round on US keyboards if I'm not mistaken but you can re-map them in Keyboard and Language settings, make sure the PC is setup to UK English and UK Keyboard.

Its interesting how everyone has differing views on Windows and Mac machines and their software. I'm an avid PC user (easily 12hrs each day, work and home) and I can honestly say I've not had a virus in over 7 years and I don't understand people that say they get virus's all the time. I put it down to really, really bad (naiive?) internet and file sharing practices. You just have to learn and equip yourself to avoid them. There are virii for Mac too.

As with most things you get what you pay for. Apple, HP, Toshiba, Sony etc are all big quality brands and will generally be better designed, built and longer lasting but will cost a bit more. Acer, Advent etc are cheaper and will look and feel it when viewed beside a top brand.

Keep an eye on HotUkDeals for current bargains. This Dell for example is a beast of a machine!

Well, this week both my and Mr TS's laptops have died. My trusty old Acer 5630 (quite aged: at least 5 years old) has finally succumbed to being dropped down the stairs, having toast crumbs under its keys and having the parrot pulling it to pieces and carping on it. It was a really good computer, I couldn't fault it.

On the same day that I bought a new one (Samsung, with Windows 7) Mr TS's screen on his HP died. It would cost £250 for a new screen (so we said bogger off we'll buy a new lappy). He's probably going to get a Samsung too, but a smaller. lighter one than my 17" beast (size does matter)

I have to work out how to get it going tomorrow: I may be gone for some time
