I know Michel Roux has recently brought out a book on sauces. Havn't seen it in the shops yet, but I've a feeling it will be a tad over a tenner.
The Australian Women's Weekly cookbooks have one on sauces called Saucery. It covers sauces for pasta, poultry, seafood, beef, veal and pork, vegetables and salads, and desserts. It also has a section on basic sauce recipes. Mine was £4.99, but I've a feeling they may have gone up to £5.99.
ISBN 1-86396-018-X.

"Paul Gayler's Sauce Book" I have this book at hand, it has 300 world sauce's made simple. I've found it on Amazon...prices from £7.10, well worth a look at. Mine was a gift from OH's mum.

A £10 budget in my 'best' local charity shop will buy 10 hardback books - including many massive volumes of reference material (got a 1997 who's who for some family research) and coffee table quality cook/gardening books.
Have had some lovely stuff from there and you'll almost be 'guaranteed' to get the quirky or older volumes which have gone out of print which will be the envy of discerning friends etc!
As already said thebookpeople seem to be the best for price and delivery online - but be quick as popular titles go out of stock v.quickly. Missed out on Hairy Bikers tour of UK as I dragged my feet just before Xmas - but they have got Grow Your Own Veg (Carol Klein) for points passport holders only - limited stock - which I'm going to jump on for £4.99!Last edited by quark1; 06-02-2010, 04:07 PM.
