I dream of having a cleaner as it is a major source of upset for me the state my house gets in during term time as i never have time to get on top of things and the boys don't notice the mess and untidyness!!
I would gladly pay £10 an hour for someone to come in and whizz around the house and leave it looking tidy and smelling lovely.

So put a notice in your local shop Miffy. I bet there are loads of ladies who need the money.

@ Jane: if OH isn't doing his share (after all, you both work and you both make mess, so how come only one of you is doing the chores?), then make sure the cleaner's wages come from his pocket money, not yours.

Cleaner every time. Gardening is a pleasure cleaning not so much. Even when cutting the grass I look around and come up with ideas/projects even if its I must get rid of this grass!

This is why we ended up with a cleaner! OH didn't want to do his share and I refused to do it all, both working full time etc. So OH pays! Cleaner does about 1.5 hours a week, costs a tenner, lovely to come home from work and find the house all clean. I tidy first so she can get a good run at everything - I want her to spend her time cleaning.

I'd love a cleaner but I can't really afford it, and knowing me, I'd go round tidying up first anyway. I pay my ironing lady £10 an hour, and because I hate ironing so much reckon she is worth every penny.

The going rate round here is £10 an hour. Those of you who charge less are very underpaid - whatever area you live in!

I used to have a cleaner, but she got lazy and would only do the jobs she wanted to do, and not what I asked her to do. We dispensed with her services and made the effort to spend Saturday mornings blitzing the place. Now I'm not working full-time, I do it. But he cooks, so I'm not complaining.

Shame you're not nearer Janey, I'm a gardener, and I have space for more 'clients.'

@ £10 per hour, I wouldn't suggest you move to Cornwall...!

I just don't iron, even easier!

I like that and will quote it to me my mum next time she gives me that disapproving look when she thinks I'm not keeping on top of the house (note that she thinks it's 100% my job and thinks OH is a star because he helps out!)

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Years back a friend of mine used to clean for a few people. It was before there was such a thing as 'minimum wage', and I don't think the pay was great, but it was cash (no deductions and no questions asked or answered), and she was trusted to come in and do the work as needed, plus, one house had a swimming pool and in school holidays, as long as all was clean and tidy when she left, her kids could come along and play in the pool (she wouldn't have let them play if they weren't old enough to be sensible about it).
I do know of people who get someone in for an hour or so a week to cut the lawn, keep the shrubs unbder control and do any heavy digging that is needed, but unless you only want a garden to look at (which seems unlikely, or why are you on the Vine?) I can't imagine paying for anything else in the garden.
I'd rather have a cleaner, but one who comes to work WITH me, not to clean the house while I am out. I'd be worried that I had left something I didn't want her to find! (not that it is relevant here, because there isn't enough house, or enough space to tidy up!)

Used to have a great cleaner @ £6 per hour but she had to move away since then we have tries recomendations and agencies @ £10 ish and they are no where near as good. We both work full time and due to shif work I do the ironing and some cleaning and washing, (modern male!!) also cooking !! What would she do without me !!!

Anyway if anyone knows of a good cleaner in Warrington at less than £10/hour then please let me know !
