We'll I've bought some Venison steaks - don't know how I'll cook or serve them yet...and I think I'll be buying him a fig tree for the new garden. The best thing he could give me this year is a moving-in date for our self build .

It's my mum-in-law's birthday on Feb. 14th so we always go round to visit her. We don't do anything special, just cards (if O.H. remembers!) & a small pressie.
Into every life a little rain must fall.

we don't do cards or pressies - mean pair aren't me but then we do say 'I love you' every day and most times we even mean it

We don't do cards or pressies either.
Will be working Saturday night, so sleeping Sunday morning.
I expect we'll have a nice bit of food Sunday pm and a bottle of wine before I fall asleep on the sofa!!

My OH and I never celebrate Valentines ... not because I might not like to! But his children live with their mum, and Valentines day is always during their half term week when we have them with us. So, in 10 years, not one Valentine's dinner.

Two benefits though - this year, I've told him he owes me a "date night" some other night and also, we'll be spending Valentine's day skiing down the piste in Italy

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day

It's the first time in a long time that I've booked for us to have a meal out, so no doubt OH will wonder what I'm after , I would normally cook a candle light meal for us at home, bottle of fiz, the works but I fancied a change, I think cards are vary over priced and I'm not a cut flower person, I'd much rather see them in the garden. I wouldn't turn my nose up at a big box of yummy chocky's though

The last time we went out for a Valentines dinner was about 4 years ago. We went to a Tapas restaurant in Harpenden - usually pretty good. However, they had a "set menu" which wasn't really tapas at all. The tables were all really crammed together and the Flemenco performers they had were a bit close for comfort.

We haven't been back since, and haven't been out for Valentine's either.

We are exactly the same - no cards, nothing on valentines day - can't be doing with the commercialisation of it all. The idea of it is fine and we will do something at some point but it will be when we want to, not when we are being told we 'have to'! We feel the same about christmas too! We 'celebrate' as we have young children but we don't buy into the commercial side of it - only have a christmas tree cause of the kids but won't do that when they are grown up!

We once went to a Chinese Restaurant for Valentines, they also had a 'set menu' which was rubbish, and everyone was ordering the crispy duck instead (not on the set menu). We decided to do the same, and a very angry Chinese Chef came out from the kitchen, with our duck under a silver cover, which he proceeded to 'carve' in a very agressive manner - suffice to say, we've never been back!!

Either going south to see family, or staying here and having nice dinner (at home) with fizzy wine, nice red etc. Not madly different from other weekends. I'm not bovved about going out really, we usually do send a card and flowers (usually a growing rose), and the odd trinket.

I like your comment HW, that it's nice to make an effort when all the days are effortless. Nice way to put it - we don't go mad but do mark the day. I also understand people getting hacked off with the relentless heart-shaped everything in the supermarket. Never mind. Easter next!

Its my 32nd Birthday so we are staying in and Husband is cooking a romantic meal. I loved it when we were at Uni as Valentines was cancelled and we all went for a girls night out.

We don't do cards or pressies either, although we used to. Nowadays, we've been together for 12 years and are strapped for cash, so we'd rather spend the pennies on something useful!

However, I'll cook as usual, and prob do something a bit more 'faffy', and if Mr OWG is very lucky, I'll make Nigella's Caramel Croissant Pudding, then fall asleep in front of Dancing on Ice
