Before we start talking about Saint Valentine's Day (yes, it is a SAINT'S day, with church origins) being romantic, let's look at the beginning. Valentine was walking past a garden when he heard a group of sisters bemaning their lack of dowry, and how this was going to come between them and marriage. Soon after this they found purses in their garden with sufficient money to solve this problem.
Just how romantic is that in any modern context?
I'd rather commemorate dates that matter to us, like the anniversary of when he proposed, or other such memories. I don't really find the 'everyone does it the same time' idea romantic AT ALL!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

In that case, can we have a day where someone leaves a purse of money in my garden please?? I could really use it!

For the first time in too long I'm actually with someone for the 'event'. My OH is making a big deal about how he's going to take me out 'no expense spared' and how I'm going to be spoiled this weekend. I'm so lucky - aren't I? Then why do I feel it's just for show?? I feel that I'll have to be soooooo grateful for weeks to come. Is it worth it?

          Sorry, bad day, bad week.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.

Tell him that's not what you want. We Men don't know what you want unless you tell us.
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

              Awww, hope it gets better!

I have to say, despite the lack of cards and presents (unless he remembers and stops in the garage ) I wouldn't swap Mr. G. (Aaaah!) I worked with a fella who showered his wife with flowers, cards and chocolate, and did the same for his bit-on-the-side. Scheming hound!

I'm thinking of copying Two Sheds' present idea - it's fab! But, can I get away with buying myself a MacBook, I wonder?

Regretably I'm in quarantine thanks to the good old winter vomiting bug, so I shall have a quiet day in.

Long romantic walks, posh meals out together, long romantic...er....interludes, sex in the shower etc etc....all the usual things they say you're supposed to do, we won't be doing cos of my temporary inability

Anything else such as chocs and cards we won't be doing either thanks to AOL emptying our account so efficiently.

I did want to go to Devonshire Traditional Breeds Centre - they've got a chook sale, and choose two new chooks for my valentine's gift. We'll probably still do this, it's just a question of when.

Meanwhile, my 12 yr old has just bought his first Valentine's Day card...awwww!

Personally I'm deeply suspicious of anybody that makes a big show of things but you're the only one on here that knows him so can gauge if he's genuine or not.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

well, I feel too tired(and skint) to bother! We always go to garden centre for hot chocolate, chat and then choose a David Austen rose together - how sad and boring is that!
