  • RIP Alexander McQueen

I expect I will be the only Grape mourning the loss of this fashion genius, days after the death of his mother, but he will be sadly missed.

    What a tragedy.

I don't know the first thing about fashion, but having read that article how sad this is. I can't help but feel that had he not been so precipitate he might have eventually coped with his grief. But it must have been completely overwhelming for him.

How awful for him and everyone else concerned.

I don't know much about fashion and had never heard of him but I've just read the linked articles. Very sad.

I love fashion even if I can't afford the designer stuff & love the photos of the big shows etc. & window shop in Vivienne Westwood frequently! Really sad to hear about Alexander/Lee he must have been totally devastated by his mother's death poor man.

I confess I hadn't heard of him - but anyone's death at such an age is a cause for sadness. I don't do fashion. Even when a young thing I didn't.

I don't do fashion either, but anybody taking their own life is a sad thing.

                No...

Been out most of day, and just saw this. He was hugely talented and creative. Some of his designs were beautiful.

A real loss in terms of his creativity, and a tragedy for his poor family.

Any young death is so, so sad, and being well-known obviously doesn't make it more so, it just means more people know of the person, and in his case, his fabulous work.

                Sad news.

The circumstances of his leaving are very sad - but he leaves behind a legacy of great flair and genius to the design world of couture which many will aspire to.

                  RIP.

I think if you don't understand somebody/something, perhaps you shouldn't comment.

We can't all profess to understand fashion, but I'm sure that unfortunately we can all understand tragedy and loss.

Sad indeed - he inspired a lot of people in a relatively short career. I know of 2 people who he definitely inspired - they will be mourning his loss, and the passing of such talent (regardless if you understand/appreciate it or not).

I, too was sad to hear of his death, Two_Sheds. Another young genius who has gone far too early. I can't pretend he designed for people like me, but I loved the creativity and flair - and I could always dream! I just hope that the pool of talented designers that our fashion schools have been producing is not drying up, and that his legacy has a chance to live on.
