Help and advice on rooted christmas trees!

I got a rooted christmas tree last christmas (the one thats just gone) and Ive kept it in the house as its only a very small one and I thought that the snow would kill it. Ive had a couple of those £1.99 ones with spray snow on them in the past but they never survive long enough to be able to re-use them the following year. The one I got last year was a very young small real one and I dont know how to treat it. Do you just pot them up into a tub or do they need special treatment? Have I got to keep it indoors till any risk of frost has gone due to mee keeping it indoors till now? and also how much do they tend to grow each year? I dont know exactly what type of tree it is but its one with real needles and not one of those cheapies and I would love to be able to have it in a tub next christmas with trimmings and lights.
Any help and advice would be great.

What size pot is it in now? Christmas trees are hardy, but as it's been kept indoors you might want to move it outside by degrees, e.g. into a cool porch or garage first.

Its just a small pot at the moment (it fits on my kitchen window sill) but I can see its roots very clearly starting to show through the water drainage holes in the bottom of the pot.

Why not plant it outside in the ground you could put lights on it for a year or to until it gets to high .
We have one in the garden that was planted about 25 years ago it is now close to 40 feet tall it don't get lights on any more but the birds love it i do see Goldcrests in it about twice a year....jacob

Im not sure I have room for a 40ft tree what with my shrubbery and veg garden and flower borders and the greenhouse and 2 sheds. I thought that I could keep it in a tub till it got to big for me then donate it to some group or a school or something like that. Ive just always wanted a potted christmas tree and so when I saw it reduced in the local co-op for a measly £2 and it was one of those that should have been £12 I just jumped at it. I hoped that I would have it for some years before it got to big for me.

I alsdo have loads of plants for the birds and I often get chaffinches and even longtail tits in my hedge on the fronts.

I would think if you keep it in a pot perhaps a bit bigger than the one you have it in and do not feed it to much it should be all right for a year or 2..,,jacob
