She's on quite high doses of morphine. It's a hind leg, so yes she could cope if she loses it (but I really hope it doesn't come to that). Thanks for all the good wishes. So many nice people on here!

Very glad I've kept paying for her insurance! This one would be expensive without.

Such bad news, Hilary, but there is so much that can be done for smashed bones in the veterinary world nowadays. A friend's kitten was run over by a truck last summer, his leg was completely smashed - hind one same as Gemma's. The first vet suggested that they put him down, but there was no way they would do that! They went to an orthopaedic specialist and the leg was plated and wired and bolted and goodness only knows what. The poor puss had to spend weeks in a cage most of the time to stop him running, but now, apart from a slight limp, you would never know the extent of his injuries. You're bound to worry, but try to keep positive for both your sakes.

Oh my goodness - with all these positive thoughts (and mine!) she's bound to be just fine.

You'll be a nervous wreck, but Gemma will come bouncing back!

Oh poor Gemma. Hope it all goes well with the vets. Its such a worry when these things happen to pets. She is probably high as a kite on the pain meds while poor you are worried sick.

Just caught up with this Hilary, you must have been frantic, hows Gemma today, have you heard anything from the vets yet?
Pet's...we love em to pieces, they worry us to death, they cost us a small fortune, but we wouldn't be without them. I hope Gemma had a comfortable night and you managed to get some sleep.
Lots of ((((((((((BIG HUGS)))))))))), XXXXXXX and love coming both your ways from me & Jinny the cat.

Poor Gemma - but it will be worse for you with nothing to do but worry. I do hope she's fixed up soon and kept out of pain. Poor thing.

All our love and best wishes to you both from me and my pooches. Bob had knee reconstruction last year and I was a mess! But vet surgeons these days are amazing so I'm sure they'll be able to work wonders with her too....xxx
