  • Flippen council tax!!!!!

Ive been receiving letters telling me i owe a large amount of money on my council tax, which i don't.Ive been threatened with court summons etc...due to non payment, which i have been paying since dec 09, so today i arrive home and find a court summon letter with a date and time to appear in court, im immediately on the phone and speak to a very nice lady who thinks there is something wrong on my account, why no-one else has seen this i dont know, anyhow she puts me through to the control office who asks me if i have moved out of the house recently, yes i have, i replied, i moved out for 6 months, ahhh and thats the problem, your money has been getting paid onto your old account not the new one, i'll swap it over for you now.......i owe £2.22 for Feb!?!

Just to balance things out.. I see it from all sides... it all depends on whether the council tax dept was made aware you had moved out. How had you told them that you'd moved?

Today I had a caller on the phone who was up in arms about the fact we hadn't sent him a bill and a little bit of digging showed that he hadn't actually informed us of his move in to the borough. Even though we had sent a letter to 'the occupier' and that had been ignored.

So I can see all sides of the issue.

The purpose of reminder letters, final reminders and summons letters is to prod the occupant into contacting us at which point we can then do something to rectify a situation. We can only work with the information we are given. You say had been receiving threatening letters so had you not contacted the council when you received the first threatening letter.

We do make mistakes of course, but its not our fault every time!

Had cause to think about this post today and wondered if this answer had sounded harsh or maybe just plain judgemental - I see there were no further comments after I posted so I do apologise if my response offended in any way.
