I think the poh-lees provide an "advisory service" or some such thing.

Yeah, we had them round to "advise" us on security following repeated break-ins from the occupants of the squat down the road (in Brighton).

We were advised that no, we couldn't use barbed wire, carpet grip or anything remotely nasty. No, we couldn't bash a squatter if we found them in the flat.

We ended up just planting berberis etc up the balconies, and praying.

Ironically, the burglar that was eventually caught, had managed to walk in through the front door that someone had left open
When said burglar was arrested in town, using one of our stolen bank cards, he broke the copper's wrist.

Those that do wrong should be dealt with far more severely and that should be the expectation if caught and successfully prosecuted.
