  • Coffee with ......?

If you could sit and have a coffee with a gardener who would you choose?
    past and present?

Past - Harry Dodson (Wartime/Victorian kitchen garden)

Present - Monty Don (he writes his garden diaries in the same way as me!)

Past: My Nan and Grandad - they grew lovely veg. and I just wasn't interested back then. (Apart from eating the Strawberries!)

Present: Monty Don - he could read the telephone directory to me, I just love the sound of his voice.

I don't know enough about past gardeners I'm afraid, but another vote for Monty in the present here.

He and Seastick Steve have the kind of voice I could listen to for hours.

Oh, just thought of a past gardener - LadyWayne's Grandad. I never met him, but he was a prolific grower who I'd of got along with famously so I'm told.

My dear late Uncle John, who called his allotment "the garden". I can still smell those greenhouse tomatoes and the rides in his wheelbarrow when I was little.

I think I could enjoy a coffee with Carol Klein. Not for too long though, her enthusiasm might get a bit grating.

My friend Paul Tanfield with whom I have a pint every Saturday, and/or my grandmother sadly no longer with us.

Definitely past My Dad or Geoff Hamilton
                      not-sure-if-still-about Bob Flowerdew
Present ..... hmmmm difficult... I think it would be Titchmarsh, he's so unfailingly cheerful and if something goes wrong he sees the funny side of it!

Past would have to be Geoff Hamilton... he died far too soon.
Present, well its got to be Monty Don, his voice can sent tingles down my spine any day.

And yes HB, Bob Flowerdew is still with us and came a very close second to Monty.

Past - my father. A very happy and enthusiatic gardener, and generous with his knowledge.

Now - Sarah Raven. I'd have a bit more common ground with her, I think, and I suspect she'd be good company.
