  • Help! Now I've done it

Well I've had to do it. I've applied for a new job. The weird thing was having to submit an application on line. Very strange. So the submit button has been hit and now I have to wait and see.

I feel extremely nervous and I've got butterflies in my stomach. Have to tell the boss tomorrow.

It's worse than sitting an exam. I've never done the online thing before and I'm convinced i've done it wrong.

Cross fingers I won't look like a complete pratt.

Ah well telling the boss will make them re-assess your value to them! (That might be good or bad of course. )

          Good luck EB.

I am sure you won't look a prat.

However, unsure why you have to tell the boss tomorrow - more usual to tell them after you receive an offer of employment.

Good luck, Earthbabe - it's always scary making a change in your life, especially when the boss doesn't realise you need one. I was really lucky with my last change of job, my immediate manager was aware I wasn't happy and was very supportive, so the actual boss (MD) didn't need to know until I'd actually been offered and accepted the new job. Still, that was hard cos he (MD) was the sort who could have gone either way and I had to work a months notice. In fact he was absolutely lovely about it and even gave me a really super leaving present and wished me luck. If you know you need a change go for it and I'm sure everything will work out for the best.

Good luck! Still, I'd tell the boss if you get an interview - you never know, you might get some better terms from him/her if they want to keep you, (and how could they not?!). Mind you, depends on your reasons for wanting to leave.

Thanks for all your good wishes. Having psyched myself up the boss wasn't there yesterday and unless I pop up to the ward when I go in for an info session I have to go in for I won't see her for three weeks.

Shirl - I have to tell my Line Manager, the requirements for the referees are such that she has to be one of my referees and they ask for references before the interview, so no choice.

It's the first time I have applied online so it is all a new experience. The funny thing is I keep getting asked at work if I'm going to apply for the more senior position available on the ward. My usual response is along the lines of "why would I want more hassle - I'm trying to improve my work/life balance because I have a life and more than enough to do without coming to work." Or words to that effect. usually I get asked this be colleagues who think along the same lines as I do, so therefore they are not really surprised. I think they are just hoping that they won't get lumbered with another of our colleagues and see me as a good alternative. I suppose it is a sort of compliment.

Would I be correct to assume therefore that you are applying for a promotion rather than to move job completely? That would explain the reference before interview bit.

In any case, I wish you the best of luck.

My OH has applied for a job close to home and boy do I hope he gets it - fed up with him working overseas!!!

I'm applying for a new job but still within the NHS. That's just how they do it. Don't want the promotion available on the ward and I've applied for a community job.
