can I catch his trojans?

OH is away, so I've just cleaned his pooter up a bit (he never bothers) and I found 18 trojans etc.

I fixed them (I hope) and am now running another scan 24 hrs later to be sure.

I've tightened up his Facebook security, deleted unnecessary files and updated his thingies to the latest versions .

My question is (and Googling hasn't answered it) - can his computer infect mine? We both use the same (encrypted) wireless modem (obviously).

OH has his laptop, and I now have a mini netbook thingy. We both use the same wireless network, but he can have viruses and I won't. We access different sites and a few of the same ones, but we used to use a music site for downloading and don't anymore because a lot came from there.

It could be cos mine is newer and is up to date on protections but since we stopped using Limewire, we don't have quite so many threats.
Has he ever borrowed your puter to do stuff on it? I might worry if he had file shared on yours.
I'm probably wrong - someone more techy than me could prob answer this better.

If you both use the same wireless modem at the same time, then effectively you have a network. It is technically possible for some nasties to move across a network, but providing you have a decent firewall and anti-virus on your machine the risk should be fairly small.

Oh, and obviously don't let him use your machine. But I presume you were asking about nasties that are on his machine jumping across to yours.

All depends on what trojans, theoretically yes, keeping everything updated will block most things, however visiting "ahem" sites is a sure way to get these "nasty little rashes" . Dont know what you used to get rid of OH issues but I always run a couple of anti spyware/trojan programs on a regular basis. The ones I run are (dont run at the same time), Superantispyware and malwarebytes and I use ESET NOD32 Smart Security which is the bee's knees (but I would say that as I am a reseller )

I doubt it could infect yours unless both computers were networked and file sharing.You're only using the modem for internet/other transferring, not sharing from computer to computer...if that made sense....

If they are both using the same "modem" at the same time, then strictly speaking it can't just be a modem it must be a router and therefore you have a network.

If you aren't receiving anything that's being downloaded on the other computer, and you're not sharing anything,then I would have thought that the risk was negligible, but I'm not an expert of any sort, just a fiddler....

if you're worried about 'cross contamination' there are options under internet & networking/sharing in system preferences . Click off file sharing & internet sharing - that should help

Yes!! LOL!! An ex of mine went traveling before we became ex's. He sent a Dear John letter just in time for Christmas so I changed his password to something extremely rude and then put adult control on his web settings with me the only person knowing the password.

Revenge was very sweet

Something nasty maybe downloaded on to one PC, but once it becomes active on that PC some of them have the capability to spread across networks.

If they can they probably already have. I'd scan your computer too.

If you are both using the same connection point then it will be a router, and yes this is a network, uasually a wlan (wireless local area network) really depends on how you are both connected to it, one ethernet and one wireless is the norm, if you have the comps set to share files between them eg photos etc then yes you can spread the virus, otherwise possable but unlikely, if he is file sharing as i do he has got to use avast free it has settings to check files as they are downloaded so no trojans etc, as teb suggested superantispyware and malewarebites are good scanners, make sure your router firewall is on, scan both comps just to be on the safe side,also if you restrict the router, urls, ports, times,etc, it will block all comps connected to it.
