2005 - they started on the right foot [thinking about food]....
I was a Brownie for one week and a guide for two.
Brownies - they spent the evening looking at butterflies [don't like dead things, so didn't go back]
Guides - first week spent planning the next week's outing. Second week spent with teabags over my eyes as as soon as we got to the woods I came out in a full body rash, couldn't see out my eyes and couldn't wait to get home and have a bath. Nightmare. Never went back.
I failed my semaphore so couldn't get my 'wings' ( is that the right term??)
Could have left the Brownies and joined up as a Guide, but it put me off!
Ended up doing my Duke of Edinburgh's instead ( where I met my future hubby! )
See- there's a silver lining to every failure!!!!
"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
I was a Brownie for a couple of months then got my wings and "flew" up into the Guides. I loved it - all that woodcraft stuff - following trails etc. Gathering "punk" (dried pine needles - the other punk hadn't been invented then!) to light fires with and cooking bacon on a stick. (Ok, the bacon was usually raw with burnt edges but we didn't care).
My Dad was a signalman in the navy during the war, so he taught me semaphore and morse code when I was very little so I was ok with the semaphore badge etc!
Never did get to go away to camp - can't remember why now.
I wanted to go on to join the Sea Rangers but started work and that was the end of that.
No to either, as they wouldn't let me join!! (Not that my Ma would have coughed up the money for a uniform anyway )
My eldest daughter was in the air cadets, which she loved and actually got to fly a glider.
My son (the middle one) was too much into cricket and sport to do anything else.
I put my 6 year old on the waiting list for Rainbows when she was 4, but never got in, so I assume its the same for Brownies.
On a slightly more positive note, my OH was a scout until he was 16!!
I was a brownie for years - still got my uniform with badges and yellow neck thing plus bobble hat!
Went to guides once - terrible experience. Me and my friend went together, having been a brownie for years thought we would love it, my friend got sexually assaulted by one of the other girls - her mum was the guide leader, got all hushed up and we never went back. Over 20 years ago now and I still remember it.
My daughter has just started brownies - takes her promise next week, and I don't know if I will let her go to guides.
Did Brownies and Guides as pretty much everybody did where I lived. Both were a bit rubbish and I only went to see my friends. Went on camp once with Guides and it rained all the time. I was used to camping and didn't mind but it put some of the others off for life.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
I was both a cub and a scout. In name anyway, I only signed up so I could get out of the house. As soon as I was out of the door, I ran up to the beach and spent a couple of hours there, in all weathers. Finally stopped when my mother spoke to the Scout Leader and asked how I was doing.. Bloke didnt even know me.

Life's disappointments are so much harder to take if you don't know any swear words.
Brownie to Guide to Ranger to Young Leader to Brown Owl to District Commissioner. Sadly had to retire a few years ago due to added responsibility at work, so I couldn't devote the time to it. I still miss it.
Nope - none of us did. Mum & Dad said they couldn't afford it.
You didn't miss much

Don't say that!!!...I'm about to fork out for a uniform for DD!
She's only been going for a few weeks and so far absolutely loves it,she gets to properly enrol next week.(makes me feel scarily grown up and responsible not only having children but one of them going to Brownies)
If she gets to the stage where she's coming home saying it's boring or just doesn't want to go anymore there'll be no pressure for her to keep going though.(I was a Girls Brigader and absolutely hated it,hideous uniform, boring meetings and just generally didn't enjoy it...Mum was a leader though,so I had no choice in whether I went or not)
Me and my friend Rose were Brownies until we got caught messing about with Brown Owls toadstool chair thingy and both got kicked out!!! LOL even now it makes me laugh to myself
Life isnt about surviving the storm.....But learning to dance in the rain.
Another one here who wanted to join the guides but my parents wouldn't buy the uniform so instead I went to the St Johns Ambulance did lots of marching and tying people up in bandages.
