At the end of January, I spent the best part of a day, infilling and leveling a 4'x40' strip of ground out side our place with fresh, hand sieved top-soil, having just had a new kerb installed along the length of it.
It took approimately twenty-four hours for the first ding-bat to WALK on it
. If it had been kids, I would have rolled my eyes and thought "Typical!", but I actually saw a grown man of middling years deliberately step onto it when there was absolutley no reason for him to do so!
I think he was quite suprised when I slammed open a window and yelled "Oi! Have you any idea how long it took me to level that out?" (There goes the neighbourhood!) No apology was forthcoming - he just shrugged and walked on.
Anyway, said strip of land has been "lying fallow" in order to settle and for the weather to improve enough for me to risk putting some grass seed down (yes, I know - it's a bit hopeful - but that's me!)
The deed has been done after having to first rake it all smooth again as several other members of the community seemed to think it was alright to leave thier mark. Bike tyre prints, foot prints and countless dog paw prints.
I have posted two signs at eigther end pointing out that the area has been freshly seeded and would people please keep off.
Bets now being taken as to how much time elapses before some pea-brain finds themselves unable to resist temptation.
