Thank goodness "The Edible Garden" series starts next week. I'm not particularly keen on Alys Fowler, but I'm hoping it's of more interest than GW was last week.

Aaaargh. Even Carol (whom I love - in the nicest possible way) has been dumbed down. Must remember to carry a plastic pen when potting on though. Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

>If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Thanks for that Hans Mum, I didn't know. There was a whole 9 minutes of veg on GW last night - for beginners I suppose it was ok - however, I didn't know about stroking the tops of tomatoes to make them think they were in the breeze. Apparently it makes their stalks grow thicker. Anyone else heard that? I've seen the trick to reduce static before.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

I guess that's the same thing as talking to your plants

2/4/10
And the blurb for today's programme is:
Easter is traditionally boom time for garden centres, with the weather improving and customers eager to stock up for the season ahead. At Greenacre, Toby Buckfi eld, Alys Fowler and Joe Swift will be offering advice in this hour-long edition as well as beginning work on three new areas - their back gardens. Each one is packed with projects, so hopefully Toby won't have any time to lovingly caress his blessed pergola and they can all cut back on the stilted chitchat. Meanwhile, Carol Klein is at Tresco Abbey on the Isles of Scilly, exploring the exotic plants that thrive in their micro-climate. Can't we just have her join the other presenters full-time so she can inject some of her natural enthusiasm?

According to the Radio Times, there was supposed to be something on Friday's programme about dealing with banks in the garden - not the High Street variety tho judging by the money that the BBC throws at the programme, most people would get a nose bleed at the prices of the groundwork or the plants they use - but nothing, rien, zilch!
I'm always open to ideas to deal with banks, especially steep ones, because of the geography of our garden but it didn't happen.
But sort of drifted through the whole programme, wasn't particularly inspired and the contrived front/back garden thing seems weird to me.
Will watch Alys on Wednesday just to see what it's about but it may be another of the BBC's back to basics programmes and not really aimed at more experienced gardeners.TonyF, Dordogne 24220
