Hi all,

What a surprise I had today.

I was walking along the sea front with the Mrs and Mother in law when I noticed a wheel barrow stuck in the mud.

I thought to myself on the way back if thats still there I am having it.

So it was and I did. I have been after a wheel barrow for a few weeks and never had the time to buy one.

This one is a little rusty but will be fine with a little cleaning up and the wheel and tyre are still working and is still fully pumped up.

I'm quite chuffed to be honest

I was on the way to the Builder merchant to buy some Breeze blocks to use as a base for my new shed, went past a skip that a bloke was loading with crazy paving, So I releaved him of a boot full, and got a free base....

Aint recycling wonderful!! I got my cold frame by asking someone who was putting a new window in a house down the road, and we got two large window frames for a cold frame on the lottie last year when they were building a conservatory locally.

Ask and you will be given. (Or if you don't ask, you won't get!!)

I was paddling along doing a bit of fishing using my wheelbarrow as a boat, when all of a sudden I latched onto a big fish and capsized!!!!

Managed to land the fish but often wondered what happened to the wheelbarrow????

Skip diving is fun too but some people do get a bit narked if you don't ask - more often when other people try to add to rather than subtract from their rubbish!

Anyone else tried Freecycling? Its like skip-diving but with slightly more decorum. Actually, its like eBay but without any money. I just got some free bamboo and got rid of a shed full of old glass that I would otherwise have had to take to the tip.

I love freecycling! So far I have got paving slabs, bricks and a second compost dalek and a lovely heavy duty iron which I never could have afforded new.
Haven't got the nerve up to go skip diving just yet but that won't be a long way off!!
Off to play with my new iron now.

We have got from Freecycle: a freezer, a greenhouse, glass demi-johns and a dog bed and most recently lots of pallets to make compost bins from

We've got rid of loads of stuff, including a tumble dryer, window blind, assorted unwanted Xmas presents and a Playstation

I always feel a little glow when someone comes to collect something, as otherwise it would probably have sat in our shed for ages

i spent 2 days recycling a old bike and some wood to make a push cart so i can take stuff back and forth to the lottie because i could not afford a barrow, just got it finished yesturday when a man came over to me at work and asked if i would like this barrow ( nothing wrong with it except concrete stained inside )

Do you think he felt sorry for you with your bike conversion?
Perhaps you could erect a notice on your patch stating what is "wanted" or what you have available for swaps. i.e. spare plants etc.

I'm in a similar position with paraffin heaters. At present I have a 'Bitza' which is made up from three old paraffin heaters.

I have about seven on my watchers list on ebay and have bid on a few unsuccessfully!

Today my alottment neighbour asked if I wanted a paraffin heater? I went round expecting to behold a load of rubbish. I came away with TWO good condition working paraffin heater, each one still full of paraffin and with a good wick! Of course I was over the moon and will have to try and repay him in some way cos he wouldn't take anything for them!.
Lit one up today and stuck it in my greenhouse. After an hour it was that warm I didn't want to go out and finish the digging.!!!
