  • Water Rate's Have you had Yours

Just had the water bill for this year £855.37p !!!! to be fair its only gone up by £34 a year. We pay one of the highest in the country, I know we could have a meter but we prefer not to. Every one I know that is on a meter complains about not being able to use water and shout if family take too long in the shower etc. We are very good not using it in excess but both like to have baths at least once a week, showers the rest of the week.

Ours is £16.50 a month on the meter down from £19.00, we did start off catching the cold water out of the hot tap and putting it out in the water butt but we dont bother now unless it is a dry summer, and I still use the hosepipe in the greenhouse when the butts are empty.

Thankfully we don't have to pay for water, it comes straight off the hill into our well, then into the house! Just as well as OH could live in the shower quite happily!!

Haven't had ours yet... Hope it isn't going up too much!
We're still on rated rather than a meter too, and I'm in no hurry to change. Mind you, water shortages are practically unheard of in this part of the world

We're on a meter but have no idea how much it is.........Mrs BM sees to all that paying stuff. I just make sure I use the water out of the 8 waterbutts..................not easy having a shower under a butt........

Annual water charge is £142.73, waste water charge is £163.38. Flamin' cheek considering I live in one of the dampest areas of the UK.

Not sure what ours is, only been in this house a few months..

Glad we're on a ratable value though, until as of late I used to use a LOT of water. i.e. washing my car every weekend (sad, I know), watering various plants, etc..

This year it's going to be a bit different

Mind you, i've not washed my car for 6 months (since we moved) so that's a BIG step in the right direction for me. I used to litearlly spend Friday after work washing, then applying a polish/wax to leave over night, then strip it off, light wash, then re-work it all in. Car did look mint mind, but man what a waste of resources!

Living in military quarters we don't get a water rates bill as such - what happens with us is that the Council Tax and Water Rates are stopped out of Snowdrop's salary (combined) therefore we have no chance of not paying.

We have an average that we pay, which is applied throughout the country, no matter whether you live in a high or low rate area. So I never really know what the local rate is.

I am shocked at the difference across the country I am seeing here!!

We have Jackie on £855.37pa through to Ginge at £131.00 - why is there so much difference

Wasn't the old water rate (before metering) based on the rateable value of the house? JJ may live in a mansion!

My middle terrace is 2/3 bedrooms, (1 being the attic which they don't class as a bedroom, don't know why) front room, dinning room, kitchen + Bathroom extension and a big double cellar. I think its still done on the old ratable value of the house, its the same with the council tax, were in band A.
