We're in 'Band A' too & our water rates for water & wastewater is about £350 in total (£168 for water) it's actually gone down £9 from last year. I'm not sure if we would save money on a meter as they say if you have more bedrooms than people (we do) you may do but also if you have a high rateable value you may save so being in the lowest band we may not. I might chek it out though, I'd just have to go round after the O.H. checking he'd turned the taps off though!Into every life a little rain must fall.

We're metered moved in last year and it was a bit of a shock!
Used to do DD for £32 a month unmetered same size house, although we never had a shower only a bath - now our water is £60 a month (double ) - and we only use the shower and have one less person living here (most of the time)...so how unfair is that?!?

Council Tax bands replaced the rates and run from Band A - the lowest, to Band H, the highest. Band D is around the middle. The valuation banding was based on what the average houses in your postcode area were worth when the tax was introduced. You can check what houses close to yours are banded at on this link, and you can appeal if it is not right.

we appealed our banding a couple of years back and got a refund of £850 and downgraded to band D.
the water bills for the south west are one of the few things i do not miss about not living there anymore, pure extortion aka clean sweep? where the company charges extra to clean up the beaches and considering the mileage of coast line in the south west it always just did not seem fair that the locals, a majority who are paid less than the national average, are expected to stump up for it. sorry rant over.Kernow rag nevra

Band E here, (just checked: Valuation Office Agency - homepage) ours is £452 p/a - just had it through.
Seems quite cheap in comparison ? (probablythe area, so that's one benefit of me moving to Wales )
