  • Ladies - Please Please Read

    Hello,

I haven't been around for a while but this is very important.

4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had surgery two weeks ago and am shortly to start chemotherapy.

I am 37 years old. The only way women under 50 are to detect breast cancer is if they find it themselves. The figures are around one in eight women will develop the disease at some point in their lives. Many women my age think they are too young - they are not. Please please check your breasts regularly. I didn't and my treatment is more agressive because of it.

    Don't panic, just be aware.

p.s. I'm not looking for symapthy, I just always thought it was something that happened to 'someone else' - and it didn't.
    Tx

Thinking of you, and how relieved you must now be that it was found, and you can be treated.
        Hope it goes well XXX

Yikes- that must come as one heck of a shock.
Good job you found it when you did!

I've an English friend over here who has had breast cancer- and she said she couldn't have been more thoroughly looked after by the health system .
Fingers crossed all works out well for you too- you are absolutely right to remind peeps to check-( and for blokes to check their testicles). The sooner the better and regularly.

Keep posting lass- we're here most of the time

Thank you for the timely reminder, Tootles. It can strike at any age, so no one can be complacent about it.
Hope your treatment goes well and that you are soon free from this horrible disease.

oh i'm so thinking of you.

Had a similar but much better experience less than a month ago, I felt a lump and had to experience the horrible wait and not knowing until I got my appointment at the breast clinic(nearly 3 weeks) I really feel for you, I'm one of the fortunate ones and had a number of cysts drained, but of course it could have been much worse(i'm 40).

Please girls remember to check regularly as there's nothing so scary.

My thoughts and hugs with you, I hope it all goes well, I have a friend who's been 'clear' for 2 years now. XXXXXX

Tootles, you sound like you have fighting spirit which I did alot of research into at university. Keep your chin up and keep fighting it. Thanks for the reminder, it is so important.

Remember fight fight fight, hope the treatment doesn't make you feel too vile....

You are SO right - and I wish you the best with your continuing treatment. Can I also add that women between 50 and 70 are called for 3 yearly screening but NOT those over 70. You can ask for a referral from your GP - please do ask - over 70s aren't immune either.
