  • My words of wisdom for the day.

    Never, ever, EVER go into Wilkos and then down the gardening aisles, when:

    you're on the bus because it's cheaper than taking the car the 6 miles into town;

    you've got a heavy bag full of shopping in one hand and a wriggling 3 yr old in full 'seek and destroy' mode holding (in theory, if she's being good and not trying to get to the sweets ) the other;

    you're desperate to get the next lot of seeds on the go but you're out of seed compost and you can't get to the garden centre until the weekend, when you'll be able to use the big blue pick-up truck that OH likes to think is his sole property and which can carry ALL the compost (seed or multi) that you need;

    Because then:

    you wouldn't have seen the Wilkos seed compost for next to no money, sitting on the shelf BEGGING, in fact PLEADING with you to buy it and take it home and put it to good use;

    you're need for a fix of sowing yet more seeds, to then stare at through the propogator 30 minutes after sowing, looking for signs of life, wouldn't then have a chance to over ride common sense; and

    you wouldn't then find yourself struggling onto aforementioned bus, with heavy shopping bag, tired and grumpy 3yr old and large bag of seed compost .

    Ah but the bliss of sowing the seeds makes up for all the hassle Reet, surely? I never need anything when I go into Wilkos until I go down the gardening aisle.

          Now if you could get that 3 year old to wear a backpack you could weigh her down with the compost so she doesn't wriggle so much!

              Now that's a good idea how much compost do you need to sort out a 24 year old (my step son requires the exercise)

                  Yup, been there, done that (only without the children and bus, just walking). Usually when I'm popping in Morrisons, have got my messages and then I think I'll pop down the gardening aisle Compost is getting sold off and it's buy one get one free! So I lug back 2 x 20l compost bags and messages.

                      Solution (but you'll have to wait a while):

                      Take your seven year old shopping. After years of digging with Mammy in the garden he/she will be strong enough to physically drag you away from the gardening section.

                      Picture it, but with sound effects - Mother crying loudly, begging child to let her buy some seeds.

                      Been there. Done that. Now shopping on my own and still buying more than I can carry .
                      A good beginning is half the work.
                      Praise the young and they will make progress.

                        That's why little old Ladies walk bent-over, and have those wheeled trolley-bags - they've learned their lesson the hard way!

                        *makes note to buy trolley...
