My poor Mum!
My Mum retires in 5 weeks. She only works four days a week and has 10 days holiday which she is taking in a week. She has been ask to come back in another role basically naming her hours and conditions of work. She is a nurse.
Phones me up crying (vey unlike my Mum)
Last week she started work and was called into the office for a given reason but that reason wasn't even discussed. Her line manager said that she's made an appointment with occupational health and suggested my Mum retires early due to always being tired which is understandable at her age.
My Mum couldn't believe it nothing has ever been said before, she's never complained about being tired.Anyway she said as nothing was wrong thank you for her concern but she wouldn't be going to the appointment. I also told her not to go as being a past employer know that you meant to have the consent of employee. She then gets an email threatening disciplinary if she doesn't go. (it's most certainly not disciplinary not to go)
So yesterday the manager reminds mum of appointment and says she'll drag her by her hair if need be. So my Mum went. Explained to the O/Health she's never been tired, or had other people suggest she was and that she hadn't agreed to meeting. OH said she couldn't find her unfit and that it was indeed very strange but it would need looking into as the manager had said that there had been complaints about my mums work, (according to manager complaints not listed or dates etc) and that she felt my mum was getting too tired always asking to leave work early and turns up tired ( manager starts 2 hours after my Mum) She also said she could understand why my mum was upset as my Mum had been offered another role to return too and had even been asked to take on extra shifts by her manger to help cover Easter and said she shouldn't worry. Mum gets home and finds a letter from the top manager at hospital thanking her for her hard work over the last 30 years bla bla bla and looks forward to working with her in her new role.
Leading up to this Mum had said she was fed up of this women telling her she was too old to do this and that and when overtime was offered she would say to my mum that she shouldn't be asking for overtime at her age.
As said she only works four shifts a week, has only five weeks left and still has 10 days holiday - what idiot suggests retiring early. IF my Mum does this it messes up her retirement money and she won't be able to return to nursing.
Although I can offer advice to Mum I feel upset that I can't actually do anything.
