You can't trust anyone these days.

If you want to know what you are eating then it seems the only way is to grow it or keep the animals yourself !

Of course, but they won't have any dirt on them.
Excuse me, could we have an eel? You've got eels down your leg.

Looks like he's still about £80,000 up on the whole deal.
Assuming the "more than double" mentioned in the article is 40p profit per dozen he made around £3.33 million profit over all.
He's got to cough up £3.25 million leaving him with £80,000. It probably won't compensate for his lost earnings while he's in prison, but considering he won't be in for all that long I don't imagine he'll lose a huge amount.

The bit about "must pay up or face another 6.5 years" makes me laugh though. He's a thief... just TAKE it from him!

I do wonder though - how was he caught?

Delivery drivers dobbed him in by the looks of it.

One wonders how the auditors for free range eggs didn't notice he was buying in shedloads of eggs and selling them straight on......oh dearie me, they probably don't audit them do they?

              How silly of me.

                  Sorry to digress but:-

Correct me if I'm wrong but a free range egg is from a hen that is allowed to free range?

An organic egg is from a hen that is fed on organic food?

Theoretically then, an egg can be organic even though it was layed by a battery hen fed on organic food?

Yes - and those eggs were neither but being sold as one or the other [or possibly both].

                      Is that AA batteries?

Will it lay ready cooked eggs

Zaz - that'd do it alright.

Snadger - UK Organic Standards according to the Soil Association require "free range" so no, if they are "Organic" eggs, they can't just be battery eggs fed an organic diet.
Soil Association standards are different | Organic standards: legal definition | Standards guide | Our organic standards | Consumer guide | Soil Association

That's a pretty informative document about what's what on the Organic front for livestock and their produce.

No, that's not right - Egg Carton Labels, basically it says that for certified organic eggs, the birds are uncaged inside barns or warehouses, and are required to have outdoor access in addition to the feed. It does express concern that this is not always properly enforced but that's a different issue.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Just had another read of the Soil Association thing I posted in an earlier post...

Apparently the UK "baseline standard" for organic eggs is for the chickens to have access to free range for one third of their lives. Soil Association certification for Organic eggs requires full access to free range.

So, a bit of a difference - but it seems neither are "battery" by any stretch. Apparently the standards demanded by the Soil Association are the highest in the UK.

I was wondering if I would get arrested for labeling this as organic? It was laid by a builder
