And all papers are there to make money, just ask Mr Murdoch ...or Mr Black.
Not at all, just as lots of folk probably wouldn't be terribly swayed by a Guardian editorial, plenty of people (many of whom posted above!) can read the Mail and not be swayed but the fact remains that a lot of people DO believe it.

Yes of course all papers are there to make money, my partcular point was that some papers are even more cynical than others.

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

I've already said, I don't read any newspaper. They all annoy me at the sensationalisation of everything. The television news is the same - half of it isn't news, as such - it's gossip. Why do so many people care what 'Mrs. Famous-coz-she's-married-to a-footballer' is up to, what she wears, how she has her hair cut, bla bla bla.

I'd rather read the Beano! With sincerest apologies to Dandy readers!

And dont they own all of the papers anyway and swing whichever way the political wind blows?

Do you mean Gnasher the Dog in the Beano, Ginger? Skilled political commentary in there.

I stopped buying papers a long time ago, I only read them at work to fill in break time, it stops me falling asleep. I only buy the sun if I want to collect the holiday vouchers as we have had some good cheap holidays, the paper gets chucked out without being read.

Whilst I agree that the Guardian may be left wing I am not sure the Gov't are...but undeniably I agree they are chipping away at our civil liberties.

It is the tone of moral indignation and the whipping up into a witch-hunt style of journalism that I find particularly unpalatable with the DM. Perhaps calling it Nazi was a bit unfair.

I further agree that the DM makes excellent firelighters.....but then that can equally be said of all newspapers....a better reason for buying them than what ever 'FREE' CD's bulbs or whatever are on 'Offer'

                      Sorry to revive this, but...

I don't have a problem with, and nor am I pigeon-holing the people who read the Daily Mail. I have a problem with the editorial tone of the Daily Mail. They present 'news' in a way that promotes 'outrage', and often directed against 'youth' and 'immigrants' and other marginal groups.
I haven't said at any point that I have never read the Mail. On the contrary, because my Dad reads it every day, I have frequently read it. As Zazen said earlier, after reading it, one is often left with simmering resentments against whomever they have been ranting about. I personally feel that this isn't a good thing, and I can see the effects of it in my Dad's attitudes to certain things, which, during rational discussion one can often see are unfounded.
As for other newspapers, I try not to read them either, because as you say, they are all there to make money, as is every other form of media with the possible exception of the BBC. (Who are currently being trampled on by the same money-grabbing *******s who want nothing more than to make people buy more 'stuff'...)

I read the Mail, but 6 months out of date when they go into the bottom of the chicken coop. My dad gets it. Says he spent too many working years reading broadsheets, now he's retired he wants a bit of drivel!
Takes me ages to clean the chooks as I'm so busy catching up on 6 month old celebrity gossip

My children have had lots of free books and lego from these papers, no p&p, you collect from the newsagents.

Can I just say - my simmering rage is always towards the Mail itself; virtually never towards the people that it is ranting about. In fact the opposite usually applies; that I find myself arguing FOR which ever group or movement they are railing against even if at the start of the 'article' I had no obvious connection or sympathy towards them.

                          Thank you

So you weren't pigeonholing US by what we read?

Andi thinks the DM do the best weekly TV guide so he gets it every aturday....I learnt long ago that it's a sure fire way to get the weekend off to an angry start by actually reading it!

That said, there's not actually a paper I've found that doesn't have a similar effect on me,I went through a Guardian phase but really resented just how much paper I was buying and not reading.
I actually think I prefer the red tops...at least they're pretty open about what they are and don't try to be something they're not.....but then there's not really much 'news' in themso I tend to not bother and browse the computer to keep in touch with what's going on.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
