  • Help and ideas needed

As (some of) you know, I'm moving to Henlow in a few weeks - and to say I'm not happy is an understatement as the quarter we are being offered (for offered read 'you will take') is small, very small garden, no access to back garden.

I have a large garden and an allotment here where I am currently located - so lots of tools, compost, sheds, greenhouse etc.

Do I just give it all away and sulk?
Do I find storage - until (hopefully) I get a lottie at new location?
Do I give up growing stuff?
    Do I sulk some more?

Are there any lotties nearby to the new place that you can harangue and harass to try and get a plot? Have you google mapped it?

That's shocking Pix, surly it's a well known fact that you grow your own veg etc, so why offer (make you have) something so small? I'd say go for the storage and have a good old sulk, throw things about, scream and have a good old paddy, but DON'T give up growing, its under ya skin now and ya love it, something bigger might turn up, keep smiling mate.

          How small is small???

There are peeps on here with just balconies-so at least you have more space than that??
You need to review how and what you grow- UP seems to be the future for you until you get a lottie sorted out. You never know your luck- there may be one available now- and you could hire a van and spend a weekend transferring your stuff onto it before the big move?
Have you phoned the local council- are there any allotment societies you can contact?
Garden Centres and Farm supplies shops are worth giving a ring to see where there are lotties- and as zaz says- try Google Earthing the locality.
Talking to peeps in the area is going to give you some leads though.

OK- there's a few things to start you off- can you apply yourself to it and report back by end of play today???

I think we should rename this thread 'Project Piskie'

PS- Oh- and stop sulking and get motivated gal!

I've been to Henlow quite a few times and I'm sure you have already found it but I found this after a quick google HENLOW ALLOTMENT SITE.

Not sure what the waiting times are but I'd suggest storing your stuff until a lottie becomes free.

Is it not possible to talk to "the powers that be" the CO or whoever and see if they can help.
Is there not any land you could "borrow/cultivate" while you are there?

Does Snowdrop know anyone at Henlow that could start asking around to see if someone has an empty garden shed (well anywhere you can store your gardening stuff)?

They've aircraft hangars there you know!

I'd offer to look after some bits for ya gal, but I've just cleared my shed out and bought a new one to store the stuff I couldn't store before. Plus, I've nowhere to store stuff on the plot, and I'm not there often enough to be comfortable looking after bits for someone - they'd probably die knowing me.

                      Pisk

Unless things have changed dramatically since my day, which wasnt all that long ago, you have the right to refuse a quarter for personal reasons.
Its not an ideal start in a new area 'tis true, but if you really want a garden and if there are quarters there 'with' gardens then speak to Snowdrop and tell him to tell the families officer in your new home to be that you dont want the offered quarter, and you will wait for one with a garden.

If none of them have gardens then clearly option A, Sulk, is in order.

Mind you, I think that Her Maj might want to keep aircraft stuff in there, rather than Pisk's string/pots/compo/spade/growmore etc etc

If your new accomodation is garden-less, is there any 'spare' bits of land on site? You're not telling me that there is not a corner somewhere that couldn't be made available for growing.

Equally Her Maj, may have the land earmarked for training porpoises!

                            Hey Piskie,
                            Hadn't heard you'd been posted.
Bobs right, get the welfare officer involved, tell em that gardening is the only way you kept sane while snowdrop was in Afghanistan.
Can you get in touch with the HIVE? They can be incredibly helpful and might be able to get your name down for a plot.
I'm really sorry for you cause I know how hard you've work, but chin up chuck, everything happens for a reason.

I did wonder f they give accommodation with gardens mainly to peeps with kids????..just a thought....and that they automatically gave you one without a garden because you are a couple.
Oh- and where are the kitties going to play????

The welfare officer sounds a brilliant idea!
