I was so stunned when I saw it. She must have been terrified.
It made me laugh though when I saw her brake lights come on.
I cant believe the driver of the lorry didn't realize there was something wrong, surely they would feel a difference to the drive even if they couldn't see the car.
Think I would have been standing on my horn until the lorry driver stopped.

I think if i had a close escape like that when i got out of it i would have gone and bought a lottery ticket with luck like that you have to ride it .
I hope she gets over it and drives again soon...jacob

Sounds like the driver has no idea the car is there.

Things like this make me glad that my Dad drilled "check your blind spot" into me beoth before and after my test. If he ever saw me fail to check it he'd get on my case. A lesson that has probably saved my life a few times and - from what I can tell - would have prevented the incident in the video.

Scary, scary stuff.
I would think you're right.
Either
a) the lorry has pulled over from the middle to the inside lane and has side-swiped the car, or
b) the car has pulled out into the lorry.
I would suspect that the car would see the lorry in their rearview if not their right-hand side without needing to check their blind spot as the lorry is long enough, which would rule out 'b'
But, that would mean the lorry had pulled in on the car, and then shunted it from the inside back to the middle lane as the lorry can't have pulled in from the outside lane as they can't use it.

It beggars belief that this incident which happened 2 months ago was not investigated. Presuming the private car suffered the most damage and the fact that the driver has not revealed the true picture of the event leads me to think she was responsible. It's all very fishy.
Apparently the company that owns the truck said an investigation took place at the time and that the police were aware of the footage.
Ollie - it could be that she didn't check her mirrors or blind spot. Given the right junction that could certainly lead to not seeing a wagon alongside... more so if the radio was playing which could drown out any chance of hearing it too.
Someone in the YouTube comments box said the same thing happened to someone he knows. He was driving the truck, felt a rumble like a bump in the road and the first he knew abut the VW Golf he'd collected was when the smell from the tyres melting got into the cab. Apparently the Golf driver hadn't looked before pulling out.
Heresay, of course, but it seems to suggest it isn't unheard of.
Whoever was responsible for the initial 'contact' either the lorry was badly designed, or the driver of it wasn't paying attention, to not be aware that something was wrong.
Maybe it is time for a design rethink on these monsters of the roads!

I just called the only professional lorry driver I know, my Dad, who questioned the term "professional"!
He said that he has had a car pull out on him before and ended up just like the video, except that he knew the car was there and started breaking immediately.
He does confirm that it would be possible for this to happen as many cabs unlike his are taller and would obscure a car in this position.
Also, if the tanker was full it would carry sufficient momentum for the added friction to be overlooked and the impact discounted as debris in the road.
Apparently tanker drivers are some of the saftest as they're very H&S conscious as a part of their jobs.

That is what I suspected, hence it is a design issue!
