Anyone got a home remedy for scars?

My colleague was showing me some bio-oil the other day, that she uses on a scar on one of her fingers to help reduce it.
According to some of the other people in the office, olive oil is just as good, but I wondered if anyone has tried this.

I have a couple of scars I'd like to remove (the not-so-cool-looking ones!) and wondered if anyone has used anything other than the fairly expensive bio-oil?

I have to admit that bio oil is the favourite treatment in my family.
You could look on here though - just be prepared for the 'other' remedies that are offered alongside scar treatment!

On my blog there is a recipe for a hand cream that has olive oil, beeswax and calendula in it. I have 3 quite large scars and have used it on them to some affect, it makes the scar more supple and they have faded, especially the ones on my legs.

Bio oil is pretty good stuff - it's faded to nothing a pretty bad road scar on my foot and kept me completely stretch-mark free through two pregnancies.

Another vote here for Bio-Oil (a pot lasts ages because you only need a drop or two; I buy it when it's on special offer at Superdrug)

I've used normal creams & oils on the big scar on my arm (teardrop-shaped, from elbow to wrist) and it's no better than when I got it 14 years ago, but I've used Bio-Oil on my neck scars and they've faded a lot more.

I don't have any cures, I have at least 8 operation scars (not going to count now as a few are on my back and gave up counting ages ago) the shortest 3 inches the longest are over a foot in length some are along my stomach and some are across, I have learned to live with them it's taken me a long time to do so but learning to accept them is the best solution,

I wouldn't say I'm proud of them i'm just comfortable with them. I no longer hide them, even on the beach. Children and adults do stare but now with me its a conversation starter.

I have 2 horizontal scars all the way across my stomach about 2 inches apart. being male, my surgeon didn't believe that I wore a bikini so didn't hide the scars (incidentally is the male equivalent of the bikini line The Banana Hammock line?) when people stared I would tell them that I was waiting for Thomas the Tank engine to be tattooed so the scars would become train tracks

I now have a vertical scar that goes from the top of my belly though my belly button down to waist height this disects the horizontal scars, I advice anyone staring at me now that i'm just waiting for the next vertical scar then my children can use me to play noughts and crosses

My OH didn't know about my operation scars when we got together, I saw them as bright red lines but she says she can barely see them which pretty much proves the person with the scars is far more aware of them than anyone seeing them

My scars are a reminder of not so good times (I do have a thing for nurses in uniforms but thats another story for another time) and I do believe the bad times are a nessesary evil, they make the good times feel so much better

but perhaps just me justifying my life

i'm not saying don't try to hide them, just don't be ashamed of them.

For the next operation I'm asking the surgeon to give me a zig zag scar then at least I can tell everyone its a shark bite or my other option if he does another straight boring line, I will get a picture of a zip fasterner tattooed on the end of it.

We had a family friend who fell off a horse and, for whatever reason, had an incision up the centre of his stomach that was held closed with staples. He used to tell people it was his 'food zip'!

I'm not ashamed of my scars. In fact I'm proud of most of them, like you say they're conversation starters. *Thinks of that scene in Lethal Weapon 3!*
I just have a couple of small ones that don't have good stories and look a bit odd. I don't mind talking about them, but people don't realise they're scars and think I've got a boil or rash or something!

I have to confess bio oil is top notch and I swear by it. I had a very large mole removed from my back when I was younger, it needed 33 stitches (v poo), I've also had several more moles either cut or burnt off and two years ago had a little op via the breast cancer unit. The nurse there told me that the nurses recommend bio oil to all the ladies who have to have operations in order to reduce the scarring. I thought that Boots had a deal on the oil not so long ago ?

Well actually that's one scar I won't really be trying to hide. It'll be way too big for any treatment to cover it, and it'll be one I'll be really proud of.
Actually there are two small scars at the base of my neck and two on my chest (about 5 inches above my...nipples ) where they put a central venous catheter in. They look a bit weird because they're symmetrical across my torso, and the ones at the base of my neck are visible most of the time.

Like I said before, I'm not ashamed of them, but just want to blend them in a little.
