If the Vine was a real place, what would it look like?

I often have a mental picture of the Vine when I visit. I have this image in my head of it stretching across a Google map - with people popping up for a chat -or doing things in the garden. I always see the Vine in daylight with nice sunny weather! And a goodly few chooks are there too!


What does the Vine look like to you?

I think it looks a bit like a kids tv programme from the 70s. Maybe Camberwick Green or Trumpton. There's a cheery voiceover saying 'hello Jeanie, hello HeyWayne, good morning Zazen...' and you all pop up out of your gardens and wave on cue

A massive Eden Project type place with views across meadows to the coast and mountains.
Inside- loads of plants -and peeps pottering about caring for them- a huge area like a lottie shop- and loads and loads of packets of seeds to choose from.
Big colourful sofas with peeps stopping for a rest and a natter and a cuppa and lots of laptops to check up on GYO info.
A lovely smell of damp soil and flowering plants - and freshly baked cakes

Outside- small lottie areas with sheds and woodburners and blue waterbutts.
Folding chairs and thermos flasks and peeps weeding , hoeing and collecting crops.
Bird scarers flapping and whizzing in the gentle breeze
Chooks running about and wild birds chattering away.
BBQ's and a large heated shed for peeps to service and repair their lawn mowers, strimmers or even bits of cars and motorbikes. Homebrew and wine bubbling away in the corner- and of course the Village pond next to the Gardener's Rest!!!!

I actually think The Gardener's Rest is a really good analogy for the Vine.

A cosy gathering place where people meet for a chat, or come crashing through the door in need of technical help, or drag everyone outside to have a look at their lastest aquisition. Its surrounded by plots and gardens and fields for everyone's cows and sheep and Bob's goat. And there is always a ready supply of cake, tea, wine and chocolate for those in need.

My vine is: Bright, sunny and warm with bees buzzing and butterflies fluttering (but not near my veg!). Wild plots with lots of wild flowers and wild life. Cultivated plots with potting sheds, greenhouses and chicken coops. Old grapes, young grapes, all very happy grapes. Cosy corners with soft sofas, mugs of tea, home made cakes, jams and savouries. A large marquee full of prizewinning specimens. Most importantly though, the vine is a place full of wonderful people, with warm hearts and generous natures. A place I feel privileged to be part of.

My mind boggles at the thought. I do think we divulge our personalities in the written word. So in that respect I interpret you all as animals. Unless the avatar gives me a clue.

Same here. I usually have an idea of what I think people look like (if I've never actually seen them/photos), but I don't stretch to an imaginary place.

Although if your Grapevine ever opens, Nicos, I'd like tickets for two adults please.

I wonder whether it would match with the reality Flum. I used to work for a training firm and regular telephone contact with a guy from another company. From his voice I imagined him to be quite a hunk. I actually met him once, and he was nothing like I imagined. Still a nice man, though.

Rusty it is not hard to assume that you very feminine. Even enjoy flights of fantasy. comes to mind.

Strange that - I fell in love with my husband's voice before I even met him! When he popped through my front door - it all fell into place!
