So:
In May last year I was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure and have been on dialysis 3 times a week since.
It hasn't really got in the way too much and quickly became routine. Of all the serious conditions to be diagnosed with, this is one of the best (if you get what I mean!). I've been able to carry on as normal and have barely told anyone.
Only my immediate family, closest couple of friends and my boss at work knew about it (and 1 grape!).
It's not that I was ashamed of it or anything, I just don't like people fussing and like to challenge myself to deal with things. Also when people know, they often feel they can't complain about their own problems and I hate being excluded so just chose not to broadcast it.
Well now, 10 months later, my brother has been tested and is going to donate me one of his juicy kidneys. We're both going to Leeds on Tuesday 23rd for the op', I'm pretty excited about it, although he's a little more nervous, but then he has more to lose.
My issue is; I feel there are a number of friends who might now deserve to know, but I don't know how to tell them. There are too many and they're too random to tell them all individually. Posting it on my Facebook status seems a little cheesy, and just relying on word-of-mouth means a lot of them will probably never know. FB seems like the best way, but how to do it without it seeming attention-seeking-y?
(By-the-way, this is how I thought I'd tell the Grapes who were interested! )
