I used to be a lifeguard in America - very broing but I did get a good tan.

I'm a lion tamer now ... ( ie accountant ) and I don't get such a good tan.

In my younger days, I was a nanny in the US for an infamous political family. I too had the best suntan of my life

My funniest job was working for a really upmarket and very expensive marriage bureau. The women were all looking for wedding bells and the men to get their leg over as quickly as possible! All wrapped up in the 'solvent, sporty, GSOH' claptrap. Inevitably my sympathy was with the women, and it was really bad practice that they were often fobbed off with smokers and the like when they had specifically asked not to be introduced to smokers and so on. This was because there were so many more women than men yet they were guaranteed so many introductions! I did not last long in this one!

My best job, training started in my forties, was as a registered hypnotherapist. The mind is just fascinating!

Another one at the end of my working life was as cook at a whale watching holiday outfit on Mull. Hectic, crazy hours, but I got to go out on the boat many times, saw whales and dolphins and met some wonderful people. My two week holiday during this was as ship's cook on a brigantine cruising round the Western Isles and St Kilda. Magical!

JanieB - that "strange and interesting people" comment made me think of The Truth by Terry Pratchett. Assuming you've not read it, if you can get into the book (it's not everyone's cup of tea) you would probably find it rather amusing on that front.

It's the story of the first newspaper in his fictional (and rather amusing) "Discworld".

Of course, if you've already read it you'll know what I mean.

When we first moved to Dorset. We were virtually homeless and jobless. I took the highly paid position of toilet cleaner on the municipal camp site. Taught me quite a bit about happy campers and their bodily functions.

I had a rather unusual 'Cash in hand ' job once..........I was a water discharger. This involved sitting near a resevoir in the middle of the moors, in the dead of night, waiting for a water tanker to arrive and helping the driver discharge the water into the resevoir!
Sounds dodgy doesn't it? It wasn't though, as they had permission from the water board. The water was the first flushing from recently 'lined' water pipes which is very alkaline. The resevoir was very acidic so the 'limey' water actually helped I suppose.
I drew the short straw with the night time emptyings though..........cripes its spooky in the dead of night on them thar moors!

Sandwich maker for British Rail in a rat infested factory well it was more of a lock up have never eaten a BR Sandwich since. The pay was good cash in hand but we should have got danger money with all the rats running over the conveyor belt.
