I always make use of my free seeds, and generally find them to have a very good germination ratre. Have been bitten by the Squash Bug this year and am currently nurturing five different varieties including those that were free with GYO. I intend to give them lots of muck, lots of water and a sunny bank to scramble over.Have only grown Butternuts (last year) with limited success, but I'm ever the optimist, so am going for it big-time. Have a go - what's the worst that could happen?

I sowed two of the free tomatoes given away recently, and they all germinated. However I got some free alpine strawberry seeds with another gardening publication and non of them germinated.
Perhaps it depends on the quality of the mag as to the quality of the seeds

I'm definitely going to try the squash and pumpkins. GYO free seeds usually germinate well. At least they're veg seeds, not the flower seeds given every week with another publication.
