  • Winter Flowers

It doesn't feel much like winter - but it is January. I had a great day working in the garden, mostly winter clean up stuff. Thought I would share some of my winter flowers with you.
These Hellebores flower from Nov to May - so well worth their space .

The Mahonia is not fully open yet but still looks lovely. It does great big bunches of Oregon Grapes later in the year and the blackbirds love them - so another space earner.

How lovely Alice to have such superb flowers in January. Great pictures. My garden looks such a mess at this time of the year, I will really have to concentrate on planting for some winter colour. Do Hellebores need a fairly sheltered spot?

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway.

I found a whole swathe of snowdrops this weekend, both in the garden and in a churchyard when my girls were bridesmaids. A week or two early, but a very welcome sight.

I child-proofed my house, but they still manage to get in.

The hellebores seem to be fully hardy. I have them in several locations in the garden, including the North side of the house. The ones in the pic are on the north side of the greenhouse- so think they will do anywhere. They're very easy from seed, in fact, they seed themselves everywhere.

Glad some of you have some snowdrops. Mine are well up with buds on, but not flowereing yet. I think it depends on the variety. The ones I bought for my mother in law are flowering now.
