E-Mail from HM customs

Today I've received an e-mail from HM Customs saying I'm due a tax rebate. Just wondering if anyone knows if its a scam. It states to receive your rebate straight into bank account to click here . I never answer the bank ones that say verify your details . Has anyone else had one of the tax rebate ones?

Thankyou RL . I had a feeling it might be but they are pretty close with E-mail addresses and logo's I just need to be sure.

If in doubt do not ever ever reply to an email. If you get an email, then look up the phone number for the company concerned (google) and phone them.

Madderbat had the same E-mail sure is a scam HM customs giving a tax rebate? I thought it would have been the tax man.

I get at least one claiming to be from ebay every week telling me to verify my account details or they will suspend it.
I don't even have an ebay account. I use OH's but pay using my own paypal account. Just hit delete.

If you clicked onto the email check to make sure it has not infected your computer with spyware or a trojan downloader if you dont have a spyware program just use malwarebytes its free

If you have a hotmail email address you can report them as phishing scams. Just hit the "mark as" button and the drop-down will give you the phishing option.

Its amazing how many people fall for the scams, I get them for ebay, natwest, Tsb, hsbc and just bin the lot.

None of them ever ask you to confirm details online, none of them ever send important info via email and none of them ever ask for passwords etc.

I don't ever open them, just report as scams. Most of the ones I get pretend to be banks I've never had anything to do with.

Same here, I seem to remember the tax rebate one being sent to me a while ago & I get lots of the ones from banks I don't belong to. I just report them as spam & delete them.

Banks no longer email when there is a problem as they know too many of us suspect a scam. They now wait for us to contact them.

I've just had my card cloned for the third time in 3 years. I knew within 20 mins it had happened and I couldn't stop it. Whereas 2 years ago my bank had a 24 hour service they now act 8am - 5 pm. I watched whilst someone emptied my account and couldn't do anything about it.

The wierd thing is, I worked for Nationwide in their ATM and fraud department and I learnt a lot about how people clone cards. I am paranoid about it. I still don't know how they've done it. My late OH was one of our senior software engineers in security systems.

If I pay for anything on my card I usually burn the receipt. I never stick it in a bin. If it's something expensive that I may need to claim on I will staple the receipt to the shop receipt and file it.

My bank's nearest branch is 7 miles away from me so I have to do a 14 mile round trip to draw money out with my passport.
