  • British Carrots

Today I bought 1 Kilo of lovely looking carrots in the supermarket for 50p. They were just labelled British Carrots. I just wondered, where in Britain can you harvest carrots like that in January and for that price. They must be growing in a field near some grape, or guest. Or does somebody know something different. Intrigued.

Thanks for that Burnie. OH's family hail from the glens of Angus, so maybe I should have known that .

Our local farm sells them with the green stuff on at the farmers market but they are from an unheated polytunnel.

Hi Alice, how lucky were you to get fresh carrots at this time of year AND for 50p. All is not yet lost.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,

Half a mile up the road from me is a 100+ acre field, full of carrots smothered in straw. They've just started lifting them, a few rows each week. Must go scrumping...

I child-proofed my house, but they still manage to get in.

I dug up my last carrots at the weekend and they were still very tasty. I had left them in the ground rather than storing them. I was worried it had been too mild, but they seemed fine.

Thanks everybody. They were certainly lovely carrots whoever produced them.
