Actually anyone who votes for them, or any other party, will be exercising their democratic rights.

It is exactly because of statements like this one that I so dislike political threads.

          • I remember the Tories. Things weren't a lot different (in my eyes anyway) than they are now.

            - I had no hope of owning my own house, my shop manager wages were pitiful (1989-94)
            - then I was made redundant (1994). I was unable to get another job at my level & had to take unskilled, part time work in a ticket office
            - I was in hospital for 6 months, with a cancer that went misdiagnosed for ages (1996). The hospital was filthy with dirty bedpans stacked up on the floor, and blood & human tissue left in the bath. My breakfast was forgotten on more than one occasion, and there was a bed shortage even under Queen Maggie.
            - young mothers leapfrogged the housing waiting list
            - the best social housing stock was sold off to those who were lucky enough to be in it, leaving what exactly? for the next generation of people who couldn't afford to buy
            - the rich got richer

Well that tough two sheds but maggie was out of office by 1990 so afraid she cannot be blamed for making you redundant, your illness or a bed shortage, but then again she has been blamed for adam giving eve the apple, the flood and noah must have been a tory leaving all those people to drown, the plague, krackatoa, all the wars there have ever been and any other misfortune that has befallen people.

PS the wealth of the top 1% rich has increased since 1997 (nu labour) from 19% to 24% so the rich have got more richer under nu labour.

I wasn't blaming her for anything, the point I was making was that life wasn't rosy under a Tory administration (for those too young to remember it).

Hospitals were dirty, we had a recession, people lost their jobs and their homes (negative equity) etc etc.

Exactly. The party may change, but the problems stay the same.

We may well have a Conservative govt in May: but I bet you in 5 or 10 years time everyone will be calling for a Labour one

It works the same in reverse too. Whenever a Party has been in power for more than one term, everyone seems desperate for change.

Call me cynical, but the way I see it is, they know, when elected, that they have four years to line their pockets before they may get ousted. So, that's what they do; line their pockets, and ensure they have a decent future once they've been ousted. It's got chuff-all to do with running a Country.
