A couple of local large towns are now refusing to use chemicals and are only using bio/home made stuff on their municipal sites and are basically calling the Government's bluff in this silly law.TonyF, Dordogne 24220

I thought it was better last night.
I learnt that i could grow cucumbers outside which i didn't think was possiable. So will be giving that ago. Is there still time to get some seeds in or would you buy a couple of plugs.
Wayne your not mixing with the right poeple. Find a upvc window fitter or any local odd job type builder and windows will fall from the heavens. I have a double glazed one which i'm none to sure what to do with from me mates shed. In fact his whole shed is double glazed. Failing that the plaster told me he'd just pulled a piece or window from a skip and he's sure its mackintosh. Paid £10.
There was some old stained glass like the type Alys used last night at our local salvage yard. Near Lutterworth leicestershire. Didn't ask a price as he'd already had my last penny on a new old fire place.Growing vegetables and flowers to share.

I find her like a breath of fresh air and have used her book the thrifty gardener that chick mentioned with my class and following her excellent advice we grew seedlings from shop bought fruit, including a mango, kiwi, lemon and orange baby trees!
She is gentle, and obviously really cares for the environment and I enjoy watching and listening to her as she has a real love for growing plants and veg. When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

I'm still OK with the programe but wish she'd explain a bit more why she's doing certain things. She mentioned problems with blight a lot but then didn't tell people not to compost the contaminated remains - at least I don't think she did but I was eating my tea so could have missed it! The arty shots don't bother me but I would quite like a "little" garden like hers, most people I know have to make do with something smaller than that.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have gardened in a mini skirt in my time - I've been at it for a long time remember. I stopped when a frog with a VERY cold nose hopped up me fundament and scared the bejazuz out of me! ( I think the frog was badly traumatised too!)

Oh my! I think we may have found our new no nonsense, experienced, charismatic gardening show presenter! I think we should petition the bbc not only to save radio 6 (plug) but to snap up the fantastic flum and share her with the world!
It could be called Fundermentaly Flum!

I think this is an excellent programme for getting young people who aren't into growing their own yet interested. It got me excited for planting stuff anyway! And I think the second episode was better than the first, I haven't grown lettuce yet but Alys has really made me want to do it this year.
I have to admit though, I do find her mildly irritating - as someone put it, her "smooching" with the camera. But it's one of those things where I can't bear to watch - but can't look away! I've got it on series link now toohttp://ecoprincess.blogspot.com

Don't watch Gardener's World, it's drivel
Don't watch Alys Fowler either. It's also drivel, but irritating as well. That style of presentation was tedious and patronising in the 1970s; it still is, but now it's old - fashioned as well
The beeb should produce a decent gardening programme or just show repeats of Geoff Hamilton
