Out of interest, I looked in the supermarket for the dried peas she used, but couldnt see them...any idea what ones they were?

As entertainment, had its points, BUT
2 hens and (as has been said) should be 3
(BTW anyone ever heard of a pub called "the Hen and Chickens"? I certainly have, chickens aren't deer or sheep!)
She was planting things where they would 'look nice' fair enough, but no mention of how she planned to manage crop rotation.
I LIKED the Sophie Dahl stuff. It wasn't MEANT to be haut-cuisine (or even to compete with Delia), it was, as she said in the description, "mood cooking".
Could have done without some of the camera-trickery, but that is 'producer' stuff!

I think she bought them quite a while ago!
Last year I started quite a few chick peas from a supermarket pack. Grew well, but once I planted them out the slugs enjoyed them. Might try again this year, in a container.

She can cook, just that she didn't eat anything she made.....

Put her up against Valentine Warner and his geeky gusto of chomping things he cook and I would rather make his food and not hers...

Jamie for me but that's mainly cause his stuff doesn't have much faffing about.

Although I am keen to try some of Hugh's recipes.

Nip over to the chat thread, Northepaul - Ginger bought some today and posted a piccie. I think it was from Asda.

No competition for me - James Martin *swoon*, followed by Jamie & Hugh.

That would be a benefit for me.... I never know when to pick the things.

Ah but at 27p a packet, Snadge - would that be such a hardship?

                          • Have watched it now, liked the dog, could cope with the style if there had been a bit more content.

Yep like Jamie too, although he does annoy me when he swans off to other countries and makes out that he can cook their food better than they can!!

You absolutely MUST try Hugh's recipes, Nerdgas - hop over to www.channel4/rivercottage and try one of them.....beetroot and choccie brownies are to die for!!!!!!

                              • I really liked it and already watched it twice! It almost made me feel like someone was following me around and making a show about my life and back garden -- or how I'd like for it to be.

I wish I could make falafel that doesn't fall apart! Are broad beans and canned chick peas the secret?

And, I admit, I'd be really afraid to clip the chickens' wings and have no idea who to call to find out if I can even keep chickens in my back garden or who to call about collecting tree cuttings. It was very informative for the right audience.
