  • Ebay Help Required

    Hi

How would you respond to this email I received today.

    Hi
I have a problem. I had to go to the post sorting office to collect your package. I receieved an envelope & your little thank you letter in a royal mail plastic bag with the heading "Our sincere apologies". Upon asking as to where the content was I was informed by a post staff..."Ever so sorry the envelope had riped open & said content has gone missing during sorting" & a shrug of shoulders. Needless to say I was not a very happy bunny.
I can post you royal mail plastic bag with your envelope inside it for proof or e-mail you with pic of envelope & royal mail plastic bag.
My question is there any chance of a refund?
    "Thanks"
    Andre'.

I have contacted ebay for their advice and also send this message to him.

    Dear Andre,

I have contacted E-bay for their advice as to how we should proceed with this issue. I will contact you again once I receive their reply.
As you have the Royal Mail bag and recorded delivery tracking number are you able to contact them direct to seek recompense for your outlay?

I was just wondering what your thoughts are?

    Many thanks
    Bye

As far as I know Pukka Tukka it is the sender who claims for compensation for losses from the Post Office. There doesn't seem to be a mechanism for the intended recipient to get compensated.

        Hi

Would you refund him, enough though the item was sent?

I will contact royal mail but usually you only get a package of stamps.

The item was sent recorded delivery.

        Thanks

Yup, definitely needs to be the Seller that claims. Royal Mail have to recompense and the seller should refund or resend.

I'm afraid that you have to refund, PT - they never received the goods they paid for. You are the one with a claim on the post office for the value of what they have lost.

Have you tracked the item online? If so and it shows as signed for I'd be wary that the buyer is trying to pull a fast one.

As per previous replies I'd ask Royal Mail and Ebay.

AS recorded item also has a small amount of value insured, I think its £30. You will have to refund and claim from Royal mail.

You do have to claim it as the sender so will need the packaging probably & as it's recorded delivery you should get the monetary value, if it's not recorded all you get is a book of 12 stamps! I'd make sure you get the packaging & full details from Andre before you refund him though.

I'd just add my agreement, that you should refund or replace, then make a claim from Royal Mail.

I recently got ripped off (because I was too trusting). My buyer said they hadn't received the item, and could I make a claim from Royal Mail in their name (so they got the postal refund). I did this the day she asked me to, and the next day she had also made a refund claim from eBay/Paypal.

So she got two refunds. The cow. eBay weren't interested in what I said, they backed her.
