It's typical BBC. Lots of money to spend.. but ignore the basic issues..

After all, how can you justify all the staff on the program if all it is is some hairy handed tiller of soil showing you how to make beanpoles from cut down branches and save money on fruit bushes by taking cuttings?

The producer meeds his £100k a year so he/she can pay his landscape gardener. So he/she ain't going to be interested in money saving ideas.

I gave up watching 2 years ago. It's bilge.

I have to agree. I often feel I know more than the presenters. I now watch the Beechgrove Garden on catchup. Why they don't broadcast it down here is beyond me.

I'm not surprised by this, "The Edible Garden" on BBC2 is a Gardeners World programme, so I guess they are putting all their GYO knowledge into this, but as it's only a six episode series, hardly going all out.

GW has completely fallen apart since Monty left; it's so lightweight, diving all over the place with short pieces, e.g. the item on water butts', like a bad on-air magazine. But don't foget its the producer who gets the final say, not Toby or any of the presenters'.
Really great gardens seem to teeter on the edge of anarchy yet have a balance and poise that seem inevitable. Monty Don in Gardening Mad

The new producer took over at the same time as Toby Buckland - I found this article by Stefan Buczacki on the same subject...

Excellent article - from a man who knows. How I agree with him.

How many of us actually have gardens the size of these they regularly show on GW?

And how many of us can afford to buy the types of plants they show on there?

Or live in the part of the country where these plants can thrive/survive?

I live in SE Northumberland, most of that stuff would be dead come October.

What we need is a down to earth gardening progamme focussing on what the majority of the country can grow, including GYO given that seems to be where the biggest growth in the interest/hobby appears to be?

Someone should start a Facebook campaign

after watching gardeners world,i bet geoff hamilton must be spinning in his grave,i learnt all the basics from him,he was my guru,an honest straight forward,"this is how to do it" type of gardener, which the bbc seems to have decided is no longer required,at exactly the time when this type is absolutely essential to todays new gardeners,if they dont get to master the basics, they will always find it that much harder to succeed.i think that, with the exception of carol klein, they seem to see themselves as presenters, not gardeners, when they do try to show how, only allys seems to do it without sounding like a bored instructor.where is the passion for plants that monty had,the obvious excitement that both he and geoff had when showing off a plant or method of doing something, with geoff,it was done on a sensible budget, knowing a lot of us are on limited means he made things possible,i still get excited when i get it right, and all down to the programmes of yesteryear, let us have a gardener as main presenter not a main presenter as a gardener .........

I've stopped watching gardeners world it is totally irrevelant to my garden in derbyshire, does anyone spend money like water on plants and ugly garden structures and then call them bargains. Why do they persist in going on about global warming? it is no warmer here than it was in the past.
