Took my mum out for lunch yesterday and she wanted to go to a local centre called Blooms which sells so much tat you wouldn't believe even though it is called a garden centre it is more like a massive supermarket.
Anyway they were selling so much fruit and veg plants and trees and seed spuds, sets etc, etc. The prices they were charging were astronomical, for instance a string tin which was identical to one i got for our head teacher for his birthday as part of his gardening pressie from b and q for 3.49 was 7.99 there!!!
They were selling a ruler for measuring out seed and plannting distances which did have alot of markings on granted and was wooden for 24.99!! My gob was well and truley smacked.
Three runner bead seedlings £1.49, one courgette plant £1.59. Great on the one hand that folk can buy plants to set up their veggies if they don't have the time, but the cost is so very high. I know they have over heads etc but this is taking the michael somewhat.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

I really don't think I'm going to watch it again tonight. I'll record it, just to see how much time they spend on veg growing. Last week was about 2 minutes, the week before was 8 minutes.

It's still on series link, so I watched it this morning and I now can't remember what happened in it, apart from Carol's bit, says how good it was!

Oh now I remember getting annoyed at Joe's 2nd hand pond liner bit..

One way to improve the programme would be to lose Joe; I can't be doing with all his designer ideas.

I remember seeing some time ago they said something about doing some segments on balcony gardening and it still hasn't shown its' face. I live with in spitting distance of 200+ balconies let alone the numerous other ones I can see. I had friends looking forward to possibly seeing something this series only to be disappointed as it was back gardens.

So it isn't just the GYO segment of the audience they ignore it's the countless millions of people with balconies.

They do have their own site maybe some should make their feeling felt there.

Tholught the bit on prarie gardens was good but then I'm interested in that sort of gardening tho he did - as I suppose he would have to - scooter through it.

And Carol, as usual, was good to watch because you actually can learn from her.

BTW, did anybody see Alys laying full length this week on her programme looking at some veg in her garden - now come on, don't we all do that? And what was with the brown boiler suit last night, who DOES she think she is?

I thought Alys' veggie prog was quite good this week, mainly because I had just had a (friendly) discussion with a neighbour because I grow veg between the flowers in my borders and he is of the 'old school' and virtually called me 'a nut'. I think 'eccentric' was the word he used. He was a bit embarrassed when Alys advocated it, especially as she was singing the praises of my new addition for 2010, Cavolo nero.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

A gardener? The girl can't do anything right can she?

Not even allowed to wear protective clothes when gardening now....whatever next?

I did comment to Snowdrop that Alys seems a tad overdressed considering the warmth we (mostly) all had last week - what with jeans, overalls, jacket and scarf.

Himself said 'be fair, it does look as though it is being filmed around 0600hrs' - he has a point.

No issue with the overalls at all, my tutor always wore them too

I think the overalls were great, I'd love a pair but I'd look like a badly tied sack of spuds.
I mean...what's the poor lass supposed to wear for gardening...white stiletto's and a tank top

She's really grown on me and I Love Alys's edible veg program, I just can't understand why she buy's so many of her plant's, I only grow a few of each thing but I still sow my own seed!!!
