  • Well, I can't even ride a bike, so there

(No, it's true.... I had a Very Bad Accident when I was younger which involved plastic surgery on my face, and have been unable to ride a bike since. I have no co-ordination at all and can't even ride an upright exercise bike!)

I'm just hoping I manage to avoid killing enough plants to have home grown veg for christmas.
I'd still like a new bike though (and I'll probably have at least 2 already by then)!

              • i think this will be my last post on this thread, as you are all probably sick of me, but just want to say in regards to hi vis tabards; at least in the country, and where i live, which is hilly, i have noticed that someone wearing a yellow tabard is visible for probably over a mile a way, in some cases, depending where you are where you first see it. i have always wore one, since i nearly ran into a pair of ridden shire horses from behind (!) on a sunny evening when the sun was in front of the horses, and fir trees in front of them, so they blended in with the background.

and i also notice, as does the girl who drives out with me, that if you are wearing yellow tabard , you get far more respect from drivers; perhaps because they can see that you are taking a positive step to make yourself as safe as possible, or perhaps because they see you sooner and can think and prepare.

years ago i was hit by a car from behind, while on a horse. we were actually on the verge at the time, but the driver skidded. it is not an experience i would like to repeat, so i do everything i can to negate the risks. i admit i do not wear a hard hat when driving , which is stupid; i always do when riding. i nag my son to wear one when he cycles.

something i saw when i was a young child, was a motorcyclist who had been knocked off his bike. the helmet was some distance away from the body and bike, and it contained the persons head. as we went past it was clearly visible, and i mention it because i think it illestrates why we all have a responsibility to be as safety conscious as possible, and not take risks, whatever vehichle we are in or on.

                  • I know. Sorry.
                    I don't know what I was thinking.

Wayne - that "double you tee eff" bit reminded me of a video I saw on YouTube a while back. There's some coarse language though so I'll not post a link here.

I think it's called End of the World or some such.

If he's right this whole debate will become trivial anyway as we'll all be dead.

                      • Haha - nah.
I've been using the internet for about 15 years now - I'm as nerdy as it comes on that front (gotta remember, it was nerds who came up with the lol, rofl, WTF, omg type stuff long before the youth of today were using it in text-speak)
Not being street is certainly OK - and it's a good job too - cos I'm really not.

I tried once but couldn't pull it off.
